We use the smelly 9-lives on our sick cats in our Isolation room. It is usually one of the only things I can get them to eat (with their meds)

Going to an emergency clinic is stressful on the owner and the patient and I would have thought you had thought it was an emergency enough that you brought your pet there. X-rays can cause stress especially on a short nosed animal that is laying on its side already in respiratory distress. I am glad your animal was okay but you were lucky. I have seen many cases of the opposite happening. The release you signed was an AMA-against medical advice. Like human doctors, vets are not Gods and have to go by what signs the animal is showing, what x-rays and bloodwork show and what the owners tell them. Prices are high there but so would a people emergency hospital if we did not have insurance. You are paying for a vet to be there all night while your animal (and others) are hospitalized or need surgery. You are paying for a licensed technician to be there as well. And do not forget the assistant and receptionist. Read Less

The SPCA Serving Erie County has no set time. When an animal goes up for adoption, it stays until it gets adopted unless some thing medically happens that they can not handle. I personally have seen animals there for 4-6 months.

I find that interesting you talk about this since we opted to send 90 cats to 10-Lives last year since space is a problem when you are trying to treat and adopt out almost 17,000 animals a year. The SPCA building is outdated for moving forward and they are trying to make the most of the space it has.
And being one that sometimes has to make euthanasia decisions, I find it hard enough to have to do that without having people like you making judge. We do the best we can. We are trying to improve so those 100 cats find homes. Come spend a day with us and see what it is like-do not judge until you have been there. Read Less

I agree. There is a lot of false rumors about the SPCA. If people would come, volunteer or adopt (or even work there) they will see that some negative things people say are not true.

You had your dog neutered, microchippeed, fully vaccinated,dewormed for less than 150 dollars. trying doing that at a regular vet. The cost covers that plus your 10 day health check-up, initial insurance-well worth the money
