Samson at Rest
Photo 54 of 131
Samson was adopted from a free puppy ad. I was at a point of wanting a dog and I saw the ad that said great pyrenees/ lab puppies, for free. I went to the house and there they were in a lot : A miserable bunch of puppies, that would have passed for Animal cops. They were emaciated all of them and covered with fleas. You could see their ribs, and no socialization at all. I got in the lot and they all were all over me. Of course they also had no food or water. Someone else came to see them, while I was there and all the other puppies ran to the fence except for Samson who stayed right by my side. This is my dog, I told the man, and took him home. I gave him a flea bath, parvo distemper shot and food. He was so hungry. As he got older I noticed he was walking with a little hop and he had problems manipulating the stairs. I mentioned it to the vet at 6 months when I took him in to be neutered and they xrayed him and stated that even at the early age of 6 months he had a severe case of hip dysplasia. We started him on joint supplements immediately and also give him shots monthly to avoid the onset of arthritis in his joints. He runs and plays, but never jumps up. Samson is happy and healthy and has a good quality of life and I have never regretted adopting him.

Samson is so very lucky he picked you. What a horrible time he had in the beginning. Just think, if people spayed and neutered their animals there would not be the need to get rid of free puppies. I pray all of them went to a loving home like Samson. What a wonderful picture of this handsome guy

awwww! what a sad beginning for this precious boy.he seems to have picked you! i think that sometimes animals have a sense for when somebody is a good person and he was making sure that you picked him out of all the others.i wish you many years of happiness with him.do you know what became of his siblings?

No, I don't know what happened to his brothers and sisters. Every once in a while I will see an ad for a great pyrenees/ lab mix and the age will fit will Samson and I will email them and ask where they got the dog. So far I haven't found any of the siblings, so maybe they all found forever homes. At least the girl put an ad in the paper when she couldn't care for the dogs to find them homes.

What a wonderful story. It is so nice to hear that you are able to give him the life he deserves and I just pray that some of his brothers and sisters lived to find homes as well.

He's very lucky you came to rescue him. I doubt his brothers and sisters were so lucky....esp. if they developed health problems.
