Thanks for the comment Daryl. I know that you meant it in a good way, but I must disagree with you on that. ;)
If we followed the scenario you mentioned we'd have a dog that rules the house instead of a happy, well-balanced, well-mannered dog that Shakti became thanks to the hours and hours of training, discipline, rules, boundaries, etc. A dog without a job is an unhappy dog. My job as a pack leader is to provide both physical and mental stimulation to my dog and I'm doing my job by constantly challenging Shakti's intellect and mind. Shakti LOVES having things to do (just like I do) and I could never take it away from her. That'd be a shame and an insult to her intelligence.
Thanks Donna! :) Some of the basic concepts work for kids as well. :) I used to teach kids and know " a little bit" about that...
I like when both kids and dogs are LOVED but there's nothing worse than a SPOILED child or a dog in my opinion. Fortunately Shakti's VERY LOVED and well taken cared for but not spoiled at all and she's a joy to be around.
