this is probably from about 20 years ago. I'm ashamed to say I used cedar bedding back then....really bad for guinea pigs. I didn't know!!!

I use fleece with towels underneath and launder them. I sewed fleece pads. If you don't want to do that, the best option is Carefresh...but it's expensive...no dust and very safe. Next choice would be aspen and then kiln dried pine. Cedar has aromatic oils in it and causes kidney and liver damage in small animals. It's very dangerous for them...surprisingly, companies that sell it don't tell you that. Don't buy your bedding at Walmart. When I used pine, the brand they sold was not kiln dried...it smelled like turpentine. If it has that smell, it's not safe. It should smell like wood.
