I was walking across the Butte College campus and heard a baby kitten crying in the bushes. I went to look and a cat (the mom) jumped out and ran away. I looked down and there was this little calico lump, eyes closed and crying, laying on top of some branches. The mom must've been moving her, and now she was standing a few yards away watching. I picked up the baby and then realized that the mom might be scared off if she caught my scent on the baby, so I nestled her in the leaves and went back to my office. When I went back to check an hour later, the mom was nowhere and the baby was still there crying. So I took her home. I began bottle feeding her, but after a week I realized that I just did not have the time to continue for more than a month (which is how long she'd need it) and I couldn't leave her alone at home because my big cat would try to carry her around and play with her like a mouse... and at the time I was working at an ice cream shop, so I couldn't keep bringing her to work either. I posted an ad on craigslist to find a nursing mom, and a vet tech contacted me and said she'd raise her if I could get her the supplies. I went and visited her nearly every week for two months til she was old enough to bring home.
