3 weeks after cast was removed

A True Boxer Spirit - Memphis came into the rescue program last August from a local shelter. This poor boy had a front leg that had been severely fractured and his previous owners had let it heal that way. His leg was twisted in a way where he was unable to walk normally on all four legs and was forced to walk on the outside of his front pad; stretching his front tendons and bone. Boxer Buddies Rescue set up an appointment for Memphis at Acorn Animal Hospital to see if there was anything that could be done to help straighten his leg out. After examining Memphis, Acorn contacted the rescue and told them there was a surgery they could do to help give Memphis the quality of life he deserved. During the surgery the doctors needed to re-break his leg and remove 2 inches of bone growth. They had to patched his leg backed together and pin it. He was pinned for nearly 6 months and due to the location of the pins he had developed bad infections throughout the whole process; he was medicated heavily on antibiotics and pain meds for most of the time. I have never seen such a brave and special boy as Memphis. He kept his boxer spirit throughout the whole process and allowed us to care for his wounds with no issues. Not only has he taught us what life with a boxer can be like, but he has filled a whole in my heart that I thought could never be filled again (I had just sent my last dog of 13 years to rainbow bridge three months prior to adopting Memphis). Memphis has brought so much love and joy into our lives, that I will be forever grateful to BBRI and Penny for matching him with us. It has been 10 months since his surgery and he is still healing but doing fantastic. He can know walk on all four legs and even run. Although he will never be an athlete, his quality of life has changed dramatically and we owe it all to Boxer Buddies Rescue, Inc.
