World's Smallest Dog

Browse News

There's a dog in Kentucky named Boo Boo who has set her place in history for being the world's smallest pup.

According to the Guiness Book of Records, at just four inches tall and 18 ounces, the Long-haired Chihuahua from Raceland, Kentucky is about an inch smaller then the previous record holder.

Owner Lana Elswick says that when Boo Boo was born, she was the size of her thumb – and after six weeks weighed just 3 ounces.

The tiny dog had to be nursed with an eye dropper for the first few weeks before switching to a bottle.

Today she eats ground turkey and vegetables, and spends her days napping and playing.

Very cute, but I have to wonder about the breeding practices used to produce such a small dog not standard for the breed.

Your right, I am concerned about some of the breeder down sizing their animals.

Let's hope for the best for BooBoo. I do question the diet but assume that a vet has prescribed it.

I'm not sure if I could deal with a dog so small. I would be afraid I would hurt it all the time.

Hopefully a flea won't land on her and kill her! Will they spay her with tweezers? Sorry, I couldn't resist. Tiny and cute. Hopefully, though, people will stop breeding such extreme examples in pets, for the sake of the health of the pet.

THE SIZE OF A THUMB?!

Oh my goodness, that's tiny.
I'm sure she's precious.
I couldn't possibly take care of her, because I would always be afraid of accidently injuring her, so kudos to her owner for being so patient and supportive.

And good job for setting a record, Boo Boo.
Love the name, by the way.

I hope that this teensy dog doesn't further inspire the "teacup" size fad. Anything that promotes promulgating another version of THE DOG will only add to the pet overpopulation problem.

I don't like irresponsible breeding, but i hate people that do breed dogs like this and try and make it a good thing by mass production and fame
