I was just thinking the same thing as a prior poster--moving an 18 year old to a new home probably would have had the same result

Sad to hear about any animal dying. At least it won't have to go through the trauma of relocating when the Bush family leaves the White House. The kitty maight not have survived the move. RIP.

India lived a good, long life. It always hurts to lose a pet no matter what age and she will be missed by her family.

I didn't know the Bushes had a cat. He didn't get the publicity Barney and Miss Beasley get. He had a good long cat life, so rest in peace, India.

Condolences to the Bush family. It is always hard to loose a pet especially when they live to be so old. The Bush family are great pet owners and I know they will adopt more pets in the future. My prayers are with you.

18 is a good long life for a cat, and it sounds like India was well-loved and protected. Then again he never bit reporters either!

That's so funny you mentioned she didn't bite reporters- I had thought of that too. I guess the saying the well-behaved rarely make history rings true here. The dog will probably remembered more because of his biting incident.

Cats are just as much apart of the family, and when you've had them for eighteen years, its just heart-wrenching. My heart goes out to the first family.

So sad. He lived a good, long life though. I never even knew that there was a cat in the White House with Bush. It seems like the White House cats don't get the same media attention as the dogs. I hope he had a peaceful passing.

well my goodness! i've hardly ever heard of a cat living that long! if she died at that kind of ripe old age she must have had a pretty good life indeed and that's all that really matters for a pet, the quality of life. RIP, india (kitty).

My condolences go out to the Bush family for their loss. My 19-year-old cat passed away in September, so I know the sadness of losing a dear, loving friend that has been a part of your life for so many years. May their cat, India, purrrr in peace . . .

India came to the Whitehouse with the Bush family at the tender age of 10 years old, she was a family pet before they moved to Washington...unlike the Clintons who gave Socks away as soon as his term was up su to "Allergies"....they make shots for that, apparently Mr. Clinton isn't aware of that.

Me too....I imagine Mr. Clinton didn't have a whole lot of contact with poor Socks if he didn't even realize he was allergic to him until he moved out of the Whitehouse, probably never got close enough to him to find out.

They could probably afford the vet bills. I am not a cat person, but one would think after 8 years of traveling, Inidia (or whatever the name is) would be used to it. But, then again, I'm not an expert. Good point.

While I'm not happy with the Bush legacy, I can't imagine losing your elderly cat and having to move at the same time. Fingers crossed that the Bush family decides to adopt a cat once they get settled in their new Texas home. Rest in peace, India. You had a nice, long life.
