I didn't even realize there was a cat living in the white house -- and such a cute one at that! You hate to see pets go....even at 18 years old......

I can only hope that we're fortunate enough for our kitties to live to be 18. They must have been doing something right with that kitty. Rest in peace, India.

18 years is a long life for a cat and I can only imagine that it was a happy one. I am sure "Kitty" was well taken care of.

It sounds as if he had a long and happy life, although it is always hard to lose a family pet no matter what the age.

That is so sad. I don't want to think about the horrible day when I will have to put my cats down. The love that an animal provides, is unexplainable.

Not many details in this article.

I am sorry to hear India died and won't go back home with his family. My sympathies to his family members that loved him.

Aww, what a beautiful cat. I'm glad he passed to the Bridge before he had to move, that can be traumatic for an old pet!

How fitting for the cat to leave his last life in the WHITE HOUSE. He can now run the halls without anyone knowing he is watching. Maybe he will instill the Bush thinking into the next President so that the country does not fall.....

It's sad that the Bush family lost their long time kitty. But she is in a much better place, wanting for her family to cross the bridge. Also, I didn't realize the Bush's had a cat. Socks is the only presidential cat I've heard of.

I don't remember hearing about it either. Maybe because she belonged to the twins until they left for college. It is kind of a shame, since India was black, it might have encouraged more black cats to be adopted...

18 years is a long life for a cat. I'm sure glad the Bush family had a cat - since there are a lot of us "cat lovers" out there. I didn't even know they had a cat. Dogs in the White House seem to get all the attention.

Wow, that was a long life for a cat. I wish there was more news on presidential cats. Their dogs always get the spotlight but very little is ever mentioned about cats.
