After recently loosing my cat I can understand how upsetting this is. 18 years is a long time for a cat to live- I'm sure she had a great life though.

I'll say a little prayer for India. My cat is 16 and going strong, but I know the day will come for my Sweetie Sweetie, too. How wonderful she had such a good life!

This is sad. 18 years is a long time to have a pet. I had a pet that lived to be 18yrs. 8mths & 4days. Better/Sweet memories there. Some days I think about "The Kid" and get very sad. Other times when I think of her, I laugh out loud :)

I'm sure India had a long and happy life with the Bush family. It goes to show that rich or poor, average Joe or the President of the United States - we all go thru the sad loss of our beloved pets.

It is always Tragic to loose a companion of that long, but relieving to know that the kitty was well taken care of. I'm sure kitty had nothing short of a fabulous life...

I hate to see any cat die but I think 18 years is a long life for a cat. She is one lucky cat to have lived this long and 8 of those years at the White House.

You bring up a pet peeve of mine with the pronunciation nu-cu-lar. Makes me crazy when anyone does it but much worse when the person who can't pronounce it has their finger on the button.

When I saw the headline I thought maybe it was about Socks. Did not know this kitty even existed. All the headlines were always about Barney. At least as someone else said, the cat will be spared the trama of the move out. Too bad the article didn't say if it was male or female.

I thought it was Socks too since Socks was just reported to be dying of cancer. This cat was a total surprise to me.

It's very hard to lose any pet, but doubly so to lose a pet you have had that long. I have an 18-year-old cat myself and am thankful for every day I have with her. My condolences to the Bush family.
