This is a great man who can keep his cool after all that was happening and finish the surgery. I would have him as my vet - great on emergencies.

Cassie3, thanks for posting the entire story. Hope the dog recovered ok, outdoors is not the most sterile of environments for surgery, but under the circumstances, the vet had no choice.

Courtesty redOrbit: Vet Finishes Spay Surgery in the Street. Posted on: Thursday, 11 October 2007, 21:00 CDT

PITTSBURGH - A Pittsburgh-area veterinarian was forced to complete surgery on a dog in the street after a fire erupted at his clinic on Thursday.

Officials say the fire erupted at the Jasmine Veterinary Hospital in Springdale around noon just as Dr. Mark Jasmine was spaying a dog.

Jasmine, whose family lives on the top floor of the building, rushed to get his children out of the house. Then he removed the dog and cat that were in the clinic and completed the surgical procedure outside.

The fire has been controlled and officials say no one was injured in the blaze.

I wish there were more like him. The dedication he showed is remarkable. Most would have been worried about their personal loss, he worried about the animals.

I've never had to finish in the street, but have had a power outage and finished by flashlight. When I was in college, we did have a fire alarm and had to evacuate the hospital. Everyone should have a plan in place AND you need to practice too!
