This actually clarifies the more recent article. So, all along the trustees were designated to dole out the billions... It seemed like she meant for it to only go to animals while they thought otherwise.

Wow, some people just have too much time on their hands. If Leona Helmsly wanted to leave money to provide for the care of her dog, she's certainly justified in doing so. Looking at the article, she also generously donated to human charities as well, so I'm not sure where the problem lies.

It is a shame that there wasn't more attention paid to the money she gave to all kinds of charities--I didn't know about it either.

It has been interesting to see how things have come about in the past year. Last I heard is the money was being contested and that the shelters and animals might not see any of the money. If this was her wish and there is money left over, why couldn't it be used for that purpose. If she gave it to people, no one would be questioning it.

I wonder how many people who take the time and stamps to write death threats to a dog actually expect the dog to read these letter and feel insulted or threatened by them

I find that people never cease to amaze me. This is just envy and greed. So the dog got money, so what! What Leona has done, and still apparently is doing should count for something. She is entitled to see her animal cared for.

It is sad that in wanting to make sure the dog is cared for that it became a target.

I'm glad to hear that Trouble is okay. And that the remaining dollars will be given to charities that deserve it. Yes, it's a lot of money, but it was Leona's money, and if she wants to leave it to her dog, then that's what she can do. And she did leave billions to other charities.

Death deaths aimed at a dog. What a world! Some of these letter have, no doubt, been written by some idiots who are trying to be funny. Some of the writers may indeed be serious, but I am confident that Trouble is safe and sound and will remain so. Too bad if folks don't like what Leona Helmsley did with HER money.
