What a great idea this is--any little bit must help at such a horrible time.

This is just another great story that proves the worth of therapy animals. The great thing about our four-legged companions is they just are there, with their big (or small) furry bodies, loving, listening, and not judging. This calm amidst the emotional storm is just what is needed in cases like this.

Never underestimate the power of love an companionship! I have a 5 month old puppy thats crazy to say the least. I bring my other dogs to my grandmothers assisted living home to visit with the residents. They are calm dogs who want nothing more than to cuddle. I never thought about bringing the pup because he is still a bit antsy and nips. One night I had the pup with me to go pick up grandma. As we were walking to her room we encountered Lillian who suffered a sever stroke and is wheelchair bound. She couldnt speak, but her caregiver told me how she just loved dogs and asked if she could hold my puppy, saying it would "make her day". I didnt want to disapoint this sweet woman. My cooper, a true puppy-a wiggler and a nipper ALWAYS goes for the ears. I was SO hesitant to hand cooper over to her because I was afraid he would hurt her accidently...but when i looked in her eyes i couldnt say no. SO I handed him over and crossed my fingers. It was like instinctually he knew she was ill. There she sat in her wheel chair, not very mobile, and my puppy was an ANGEL! I had NEVER seen him act so politely! He was a perfect gentleman and brought her such joy! He was almost as sweet as she was! It brought tears to my eyes, and now I bring all three to hang with the seniors!

I really love pet therapy. I don't think there's a better way to a person's heart than a wonderful pet. =]

These type of therapies are so helpful in so many different situations. People really respond to the animals. If you have any doubt, just watch the faces of people in a hospital or nursing home when the therapy dogs arrive. Everyone really brightens up right away. It is truly amazing.

The service these dogs and their handlers provide is honorable. I wish that this was something that was used nationwide. I think dogs can solve a lot of the problems in the world. Just think how much more relaxed people would be if they were in a meeting and petting a dog. Love can conquer the world.
