Although I'm not a Howard Stern fan I have listened to and watch some of his shows (not really my choice but others in the household used to like to watch and listen to him). He is known to me as a 'shock jock' and although I'm not interested in listening to him this is a great thing that he and his new wife have done!
Obviously his new wife, Beth, has had a positive influence on him which is good! Great that the Stern's are supporting NSAL!

I have never really cared for Howard Stern but, this story warms my heart. Good for his wife being the driving force behind him. I think it's great to see a softer side of a man who always comes across so harshly. Kudos to the Sterns! I have been a long time fan/supporter of NSAL and believe they are one of the best animal organizations out there!

Great point! I remember when I first joined, over a year ago...Rebecca Budig (formerly Greenlee on All My Children) used to be shown on the front page and all over the site. But, she seems to be gone now...maybe we need a new celeb to promote zootoo and we could have another makeover! I know all of the money from M/O I and II went far but didn't touch nearly enough shelters!
So, I challenge all of our movie stars and wealthy folks...please contact zootoo and sponsor a Makeover III and more shelters can be helped! :)

Well good for him! I wish my community would support a no-kill shelter. It's horrifying that as a society with such technological advances and all this intelligence we have not managed to control the animal population and care for animals. ~sighs~ Of course we don't do so well with the human populations and caring for children either. It's depressing. Glad Stern is helping out!

Your comment was so sad! I'm sorry to hear all that. I feel fortunate that we have a no kill shelter in our area. Some shelters have a policy of euthanizing FIV cats, but I got one from our shelter a little over a year ago. She's a wonderful pet, she just happens to throw up every now and then and had to have some teeth out. But she's very lovable.

Kris, I don't think many have seen this side of Stern. I am so happy to hear that he is doing this. With his popularity, maybe many others will jump on.

If Howard's program can help the animals, who's to complain about that ? I personally do not listen to him, but he does have a big fan base. If you don't like him, you don't have to listen to him. We really don't know him, he's just doing his job. KUDOS to his wife who has enlightened alot of people.

Stern creeps me out. I don't care to listen to what he has to say and, frankly, I really don't care what he does with his money. It doesn't change my opinion of him.

And, I'll bet he got a lot of good press from it which will help his ratings. I'm glad I live in the U.S. where I have the choice to not listen to him. :-)

Good for Howard Stern's wife for making him "come around" to support animal rescue and a no-kill shelter. I didn't think this "shock jock" had a soft, fuzzy side, but maybe only his wife can bring that out in him. It is amazing the influence celebrities can have on fund raising and increasing awareness. Howard has a huge listener base, so I am not surprised that his involvement is helping this no-kill shelter.

I've read that a person's public persona is often very different than what they really are - like comedians who have a dark side. Maybe deep down Stern is really an okay guy that just found he can make a living by being a jerk. Kudos to his wife for bringing out the "good" side.

Debra, you are absolutely right! I am pleased that his wife brought this side out in him and he is being so successful in helping the animals. With his fans and influence, I can only see good coming out of this.

I agree, Linda! He has never been someone I cared to watch or listen to but, this story makes me feel like he's got compassion which, most of us never saw in him. Thank goodness for his wife bringing this side of him out.

I am not shocked that he had the power to recruit so many. He has always had a huge following...no matter how shocking he was. That is what got him noticed & made him famous! Now he can use his celebrity to better many causes.Good for him.

I hope he uses whatever influence he has to get even more people involved! Maybe the publicity he got will be enough to keep him motivated to recruit help/donors the rest of his life.
