Teens Torture Dog

Browse News

TEXAS - Three teenage boys could face up to 10 years in prison for torturing and beheading a dog earlier this week.

The boys, whose names are being withheld allegedly kidnapped Tobey – a small dog owned by 16 year-old Stephanie Tavere of Seguin Texas.

A witness says she saw the boys, who are 12, 13 and 15, repeatedly throw Tbey from the second story window of an abandoned house. With the dogs' legs now broken, they hung him from a tree and beat him like a pinata, the witness said, before finally beheading him.

Guadalupe County attorney Elizabeth Kolb says since the incident, she's been inundated with hundreds of emails, faxes, letters and phone calls – both national and international – from people outraged by this news.

Kolb plans to prosecute the teens to the fullest extent of a recently updated law pertaining to such cases.

The revamped conditions would pose a maximum sentence of 10 years for the teens. But the changes were passed just after the incident occurred, which could create a barrier to Kolb's case.

Unless the court decides to overlook ex-post facto, the boys are likely to face a maximum of two years' jail time.

Since the defendants are juveniles, Guadalupe County authorities aren't releasing any information about the case. Their trials will also be be closed to the public.

What is known about the teens is that they have shown no remorse for their actions – a fact that adds a chilling twist to the story.

British song writer Maria Daines was so upset by this case that she wrote a song called, “Tears for Tobey.”

How does one raise children in such a way that they would even dream of doing this? Dogs one day, people the next. Something is terribly wrong here - terribly wrong.

Throwing repeatedly off a second story window would take a lot of time to get the dog and climb back up. What was that witness doing during this time?????

The fact that they had no remorse should give them harsher punishments and not the typical juvenile slap on the wrists.

Obviously these boys need more than punishment. They need significant therapy in order to be able to reenter society. I wouldn't believe it if they said they were remorseful any way.

These boys will undoubtedly do something like this again or even worse if the punishment isn't harsh enough. They should be made examples of so others won't follow suit. I say lock them up for many years.

Folks, these are your next Ted Bundy's in actioni. I don't care how old they are-they knew what they were doing-I say throw them in the slammer for the rest of their lives and make them eat dog poo-in fact even that would be too good for them!

These boys inflicted unthinkable cruelty on this poor innocent dog---they are lower than humans and not good enough to be called animals. Can only hope they get locked away where they cannot harm another living thing, but with the legal loophole, it doesn't sound promising.

How horrific. I am so da*n tired of our laws having loopholes in them for these young criminals to do little if any time for these cruelty cases. Do society a favor & lock these kids up for a long time. Might as well lock their parents up as well since there seems to be no accountability for these kids. I'm so tired of these irresponsible parents!

what a horrible story. i am sick while reading this, the torture this poor dog endured. i absolutely cannot imagine that children could do such a thing. no remorse shows they are on a long road to a life involving nothing but violence and crime.

Honestly, I don't care how much idle time these teens had. There is absolutely no excuse for such a vicious act! They should not be allowed out of prison or a mental hospital. They are sociopaths in the making.

there are times when the names of juveniles should be released...this qualifies as one of them...the parents are to blame for raising these uncaring monsters...when they are released back into the public in two years, i hope the police keep a close eye on them because they are going to do something a bit more drastic

just because they are teens doesn't mean they are not a threat to the community at large, it starts with animal torture and extends to humans in it's natural progression.I wish they could be put away forever

Atrocious, mostly since they've shown no remorse. Still, ten years in prison is excessive. It might be better to give them 3000 hours of community service serving at an animal shelter.

The boys should be tried as adults. They repeatedly tortured the dog which shows intent. They show no remorse which proves they knew what they were doing. These boys are killers. Lock them up.

murder is murder. Species shouldn't matter. This sentence would be longer if they were to kill a man! I say LIFE!
