Stolen Dogs Reunited with Worried Owners
January 21, 2008
CHICAGO – CBS2 in Chicago reports that five dogs and their owners were reunited after a stolen doggie daycare van was found – with the dogs still inside.
The canines apparently huddled together Monday night, surviving the cold and hunger.
It all started when a daycare employee who was driving the van left it unlocked and running when he went to drop off one of the canines. When he returned, the van and dogs were gone.
Upon notification that their pets were missing, the owners contacted the media. The story hit the news that night and the next morning, construction workers saw a van with a similar description on Union Street. Sure enough, the dogs were inside.
Much relieved owners came to collect their wayward pets soon after, and this tale has found a happy ending. They say there will probably be a reward for the helpful construction workers.
Although the daycare's policy is to lock the doors, the company owner says he hasn't decided what to do about the driver. There's no word on the thief either. Authorities are investigating.
Experts say that if you're thinking of using a pet daycare service, it might be a good idea to ask about their driving requirements. Having two employees in the vehicle will deter incidents like this.
