Hope Socks wasn't in any pain when he died. He certainly lived a good life and had many people to take care and enjoy him.

Pets make peoples lives better, I know this from experience. When they pass away it is very hard. I'm glad the Clintons gave this cat to someone who loved it very much.

Well he had the best life any Cat would hope for. Not every cat gets to live in the White House! So sad to lose a pet!

Socks had such a great life! He got to live in the white house & probably left a little something behind somewhere, ha ha. To live until 18 in the arms of a woman who loved him so much, I'm sure she was there when he crossed the Rainbow Bridge & he felt the love as life left his body. Now he romps happy & pain free, just like a little kitten again, waiting patiently for his friends to join him. Bless you Socks........

I remember Socks and he never received as much "press" as other previous White House pets. I love cats but now I am owned by two Border Terriers and they do chase cats. I would have to get a really large self assured kitty!

I find it interesting that it's still referred to as the Clintons' cat, even though it's been living with Currie since 2001. They couldn't take the cat with them to NY? Chelsea couldn't take the cat after she graduated from college?

I remember when I first found out the Clinton's had Socks. I was about 8 I guess and I got really excited because I had just gotten two kittens. Now I have 2 more cats, one of which -- Hailey-- looks exactly like Socks (except for the black on his nose).

It is sad that they weren't able to keep him after the whitehouse but I'm sure it was a very hard decision to make, I can't even imagine what their schedules are like and even in the white house someone else probably had a hand in taking care of the pets so maybe they didn't have a really close bond with them??? who knows. It's always sad to see a pet go and it really brings them down to earth when you hear about someone famous losing a pet, it makes them more real when you think of them feeling grief over a pet, it's always sad no matter who you are.

Let's see, the Clinton's dog was hit by a car and they let their cat outside and then gave it away when they moved. If someone showed up at the shelter with these sorts of credentials, I would not adopt to them.

This picture shown of Socks should go along with any of the history/articles of the President. He was part of their family and it is the cutest darn pic!
