Socks had a long life--all animals should be so lucky. I want someone to invent some product that increases life expectency for all animals.

A moment of silence of ole' Socks. I can appreciate the loss.

My wife lost her cat of many years, just last year. Blizzard pre-dated me and it was obvious before we were married who came first in the family. But even though Blizzard never fully accepted my intrusion into her private relationship with my wife, I missed her company, also.

I must report that a new little "Angel" flew into our lives, not long ago, when someone tossed a kitten out of a car window right into the path of my wife's truck. That little kitten will suffer no more trauma or abuse as long as it lives...although not Blizzard, she has filled a hole in our lives and is very welcome in our household.

May the Force of the Horse be with You!

I'm sure sorry to hear about Socks...but at 18 he had lived a good long life especially with all the moves he had to make and get accustomed to. He's at the Rainbow Bridge playing with all our pets and out of pain...

Absolutely. That point was exactly what struck me when reading that article. How could the former first family abandon one pet and then lose the other prematurely? Makes one wonder how many of these first family pets are obtained just for the photo ops. I hope the Obamas will actually love their new puppy, as much when it's an adult and even more in it's twilight years.
