I think this is wonderful news! I hope that Larry Cartwright treats the terrier with such respect as he derserves. Carnegie University has long been in debt to honor the terrier as their official mascot and supporter. :)

Wow - it looks like a Scottie McBean logo. I guess I can't really get behind this unelss I hear that the dog's celebrity and presence is used to raise awareness about puppy mills, back yard breeders and the over population of pets in America.

Carnegie Mellon is a great university and it sounds to me like they already had an "informal" mascot by way of the Scottish Terrier. However, could they not have searched for a scottish terrier here or abroad that was in need of a home instead of buying a purebred from a breeder? Is it not the "quality" mascot to represent a quality school unless it has great lineage etc.etc.etc.?

We need to change this thinking. This is dog class warfare!!!

I hope that they socialize and train this dog if they plan on using him for media events. Not every dog wants to be in the limelight! At least it sounds like he will be cared for in a regular home.

The article said one of the professors was taking responsibility for caring for and training the dog. I'm hoping he's experienced with dogs, and that the puppy has the right personality for such a public role.
