Wow, that's neat! Hopefully, the scientists will be able to help create a lineage chart for the three native Galapagos species and help solve the reproduction problem with the latest find.

We just need to leave nature alone. Things take care of themselves we should not interfere.

You have to wonder if all the new species of anything that is being found lately is a result of the environment, this story did touch on that subject. Environmental changes can cause any animal to adapt, we will never really know if they are changing color to blend in for protection or if the color of their skin is caused by their habitat, very interesting.

will it do these creatures more harm than good now that they are "discovered"?
and how the heck did feral cats get in the galapagos (tourists?)
and why haven't they been irradicated yet?
just wondering out loud...

Ships & sailors and they have been working on it. They have had a huge problem with goats destroying habitat and are systematically clearing them from the islands.

If feral cats are eating the eggs, there will have to be captive pink iguanas and incubated eggs to ensure survival of this species.

I certainly hope that no blame goes to the feral cats. Got to believe if those lizards were able to survive for 5 million years, they are pretty much infallible. Although, unless man can change his ways, perhaps not

Problem is that cats have been on the islands for only about 500 years since sailors discovered the island. As the cats have no predators and a great food source, they easily multiple.

That is so nice that they found a new species of Iguana's. They probably did not want to be found, if it took this long. Also I didn't know that feral cats eat eggs. I guess if you are hungry you can make anything work.
