NEW YORK -- A Pennsylvania animal rescue group is not rolling over about Michael Vick's return to the NFL. Main Line Animal Rescue thinks Michael Vick should take a few hits for the dogs, as well as for change -- and it has come up with a creative way to get it done.
To rally the home crowd against the ex-convict but also his new team, the Philadelphia Eagles, the rescue announced this week its plan to buy newspaper ads in cities where the Eagles will visit. The ad says that for every time Vick is tackled in a game, the group will donate five bags of dog food to the home team's local shelter.
Vick's conditional reinstatement into the NFL gained mixed reactions from the football world earlier this summer but rose to a top Twitter trending topic last month when the Eagles announced their decision to sign the former No. 1 draft pick.
While he did take a significant salary cut -- signed to a two-year contract for nearly $7 million -- the Philadelphia team's deal came as a surprise to most, considering the Eagles were initially one of 26 teams to publicly state no interest in the quarterback.

In the hours and days following the official announcement, the Eagles' Web site flooded with fan responses -- some seemingly indifferent to Vick's negative past of dog fighting and animal cruelty accusations. While others -- recognizing the state's already dodgy reputation for being a puppy mill haven -- were outraged over what this means for the team they so staunchly supported.

Tesstown, an Eagles' site user, posted the longest comment out of more than 100 listed as of 11 p.m. EST on Thursday, August 14, the evening the news leaked of Vick landing with the Eagles.
"I am completely in shock that my Eagles signed Michael Vick. I just cannot believe it," Tesstown said. "I am a life-long Eagles fan through thick and thin. I have stuck with the Eagles through bad times and never wavered.
"I am also a football fan ... and Michael Vick was my chosen quarterback in two of those years, before I knew about his passion for torture and killing of animals. I cannot support the Eagles anymore," Tesstown continued in the online comment of which this was just an excerpt.
Tesstown's sentiments echoed 46 percent Zootoo Pet News' users who voted that: "I'd be outraged, boycott games, sell my season tickets and publicly protest my former favorite team," if Vick signed with their club.
While the true repercussions are yet to be seen, this new ad is sure to draw up a bit of controversy.
The first of the ad series will run in The Washington Post, correlating to the October 26 game against the Redskins.
Motivated by helping animals and raising awareness about abused dogs like Pit bulls Bill Smith, the animal rescue's founder, says he's also contacted newspapers in San Diego and Chicago.
Main Line Animal Rescue is one of the most prominent animal rescues nationwide. Located in Chester Springs, a suburb of Philadelphia, they are know for leading the fight against Pennsylvania's puppy mills.
Educating the public on the plight of these mistreated animals, they utilize prominent billboards to get their message across. They can even be credited for Oprah Winfrey's powerful series on puppy mills by first getting the powerhouse's attention through one of these billboards, strategically placed across from the HARPO studios in Chicago.

He knew what he was doing. He knew he was killing and torturing living breathing beings.
He is sick. He needs mental help with his issues. Screw the eagles for signing him! If you can forgive him you are not a true animal lover. Picture your dog being beaten, drown, hung, having to fight other dogs till the death. If it was YOUR dog would you be able to forgive him. I wouldnt! My dogs are my family. And I think of them as family.
People who forgive him are as disgusting as him!!!!!
I think god knows who should be forgiven and who shouldnt, god loves animals of all kinds!
Before you start judging us animal lovers maybe you should think about who the real villan is!!!!

I will never forgive him! He knew what he was doing was wrong and he had no feelings or remourse! He is not SORRY for what he did!!
For him to do what he did... he had to have had no feelings... no conscience what - so - ever.
If he wasnt caught you can bet he would still be torturing animals. How someone can do that to a living being that has feelings is beyond me! And how someone can support them is even farther beyond me!!
He should no longer be able to play pro football and he should never be trusted around any kind of animal again!

If you can't offer a second chance to a man, I seriously doubt you do with animals, either.
Last, Vick doesn't have to worry or care whether any of you forgive him or not......that is between him & god. Last I checked, none of you were close to being god & by the comments....many missed the part in the bible about forgiveness.

To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.”
“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.” GHANDI
The stupid neither forgive nor forget; the naive forgive and forget; the wise forgive but do not forget.”
LOL! Thanks for all the attention you showered me with....while I was away! Good Lord!

BTW, Good point.....even if you ARE outnumbered. Life goes on & getting mad all over zootoo about the NFL's decision is really unproductive & a waste of time, just my opinion. Instead of concentrating on HIM, go walk a dog at the shelter or donate some food and think about the GOOD we can DO instead of the bad we can say & think.

now on to Vick... SACKED HE MUST BE...!!! & when the game is over, I think HE should PERSONALLY take the bags (after he went out & purchased the same amount) to the shelter... On top of, for every touchdown he throws, he should have to purchase 2 bags & give it to a rescue... He took a pay cut...?? Hes still gettin 7 million a year...!!! I think he can afford it... If not, make him buy the dog food anyway & just tighten his belt the way the rest of the (for the most part) of the country is doin...

I was a football fan for 20+ years and I will not watch a game while Vick is allowed to play. Animals are more important than football.
Good for Main Line!!

He deserves whatever heat he gets, but his celebrity can bring about more change than his obscurity. I'm not saying he is remorseful. I've been underwhelmed by what I've seen, but every time his name is mentioned, it is done so with a social rejection of dog-fighting - a message that will hopefully shape young people.

7 Million after what he did to animals.
Yes I believe in second chances in certain situations. Maybe
putting him to work in animal shelters but then I think that would
still be scary.
That's a lot of the problem with these sports players. They
think they can get away with anything and still keep playing.
What a way to teach our kids.
