Rescued Pomeranians Seeking Homes

Browse News

CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx. – Animal care experts say the rescue of more than 200 Pomeranians from a 70 year-old woman’s home was the largest in Corpus Christi’s history. Now just two months later, the dogs are finally ready to be re-homed.

Last December, 237 dogs were found in Alice Carlson’s home. Animal care services undertook rescue operations, and divvied up the dogs among area shelters.

Unfortunately, many of the dogs were euthanized or died due to poor health in the weeks following. But the remaining pups are much improved and may be adoptable beginning this week. They’ve been treated for everything from respiratory issues to poor dental health.

A shelter rep says that without the help of groups like PALS and the Gulf Coast Humane Society, saving so many dogs may not have been feasible.

The Gulf Coast Humane Society has 95 Pomeranians in its care. They already house 500 adoptable dogs, but are working diligently to screen potential families, to connect the dogs with permanent homes.

Another group, Corpus Christi’s Animal Care Services, only has eight Pomeranians left. They seem confident that the dogs are ready for new homes. Still, some will have to wait a bit longer because they’re too young or are still in recovery.

If you’re interested in adopting one of these dogs, contact the Gulf Coast Humane Society at 361-225-0845.

I would of thought someone would of niticed so many dogs at this ladies home long before there was this many and turned her in for her good and the good of the dogs. She must of lived in the country with no family or friends checking on her, how sad.

Another successful rescue by the shelters of Corpus Christi of more than 200 Pomeranians. My thanks to the shelters and those who adopted these dogs.

How does this go on? Didn't the mailman notice 200 dogs over the years? Or neighbors?

Oh my word! How do things like this happen without anyone noticing long before it causes so many their lives for it. I would imagine it all began with this woman's good heart and thinking she could handle it all and not being mentally sound. Still aren't there people somewhere who realized that this person and a TON of animals...did they never go outside? Each time I see one of these stories I just have to wonder how many people ignored what was going on and could have helped some how before it got so *huge*.

My respect and admiration to the rescuers. There ought to be a circle of hell reserved for animal hoarders.

This is unbelievable! I can't see how no one noticed. I have a hard enough time with just 2 dogs. I feel bad for the dogs that didn't make it and wish the best of luck to the ones finding new homes.

There is no way one person can take proper care of 200+ dogs. I wonder where her family was and did they know she had all these dogs?

I am glad that they are small dogs and can therefore double (or triple or quadruple) up in shelter kennels. Also, this is a very popular breed, so I am hopeful that they will be adopted!

It is always very heartwarming to hear how these shelters help each other out in times of need like these. I hope the hoarder lady gets help as it is a sickness. I hope that all the dogs find loving homes. And what a wonderful thing that the community of shelters are doing, working together to help find these pups a new home.

It's wonderful that the dogs were rescued from such horrible conditions. It's also so nice to see so many people coming forth to adopt the dogs and give them new homes. I hope every last dog finds it's forever home with a great and loving family.

Our shelter rescued 78 Poms on Christmas day from a backyard breeder. I don't know why, maybe cause of their small size, but hoarders seem to focus on Poms. So sad. All the Poms who survived that bad conditions at the breeder in our area got adopted.
