I had no idea that they had animal blood donors--it should have occurred to me, but it didn't. How interesting.

This dog does so much good without knowing it. There are more dogs that do this great deed, but it is just wonderful that the Red Cross is honoring him.

This was a great story. I have wondered if it mattered if you gave a dog different breeds blood. If it can be done with out hurting the dog, then it is a great benefit to many other dogs.

Our vets own German Shepherd donated blood to our wired hair fox terrier when she had leukemia. That was way back in 1964!I thought it was amazing then and it's still amazing now!

This is something our vets should mention. Since you have to have regular visits anyway, some dogs might make good donors and not mind.

Our local emergency clinic contacts the local Spca for blood donations. Well adjusted, healthy pets awaiting adoption are carefully chosen. A great way to earn their room and board. Plus if their cage is tagged with "I am a blood donor" it helps them get adopted faster. Everyone loves to adopt a hero!

I am glad that some dogs can donate blood. If they didn't we would be able to save dogs lives. I know if my dogs needed blood and there were no dogs donating blood to them. I'd be really upset.

Great coverage of a little known public need. How often do pet owners recieve requests from the vets for blood donations during their visits? It's common practice for friends and family of patients in hospitals to get requests to donate blood. Why not be a bit more public about the need for donation? I'm sure there would be an overwhelming response, considering the caring nature of most pet owners...
