I am glad to see an update, but had hoped for a better ending. Good to hear that the other cub is doing well.

What a very heartbreaking story. It is very sad that populations of natural wildlife is greatly inhibited by man taking over their natural habitats. It was probably not the mother abandoned them, but was killed by a poacher. It was a wonderful thing they tried to save the cub and went to extremes, but so said Juhi died.

thats very heartbreaking that Juhi died...im very concerned about the dwindling population of Tigers...i think the people shouldnt have beaten the poor cubs...i think they only thought of their selfish person than an endangered species...i think that town should feel shame that the poor cub died...and hurt the population of tigers...they should have contacted a wildlife official.Juhi and Jai were already in bad condition when their mother abandoned them...do they need more suffering?!?!
Rest In Peace,Young Juhi...and may your spirit roam freely in Tiger-Heaven
And Best Wishes for Jai,and hope that Jai will recover and become the fierce and proud tiger she should have become..in the wild.
[when im old enough,im going to help all the endangered and threaten species of animals like big cats[jaguars,tigers,leopard..etc]manatees,whales,dolphins...and more
please, please,PLEASE halp endangered and threaten species of animals. :( :)

i 100% agree that villagers should be given more education about what to do when they find tigers or cubs, but wondering why the villagers beat the cub seems pretty dumb to me - isn't it obvious? we are talking about poor remote villagers who prob have elders who remember a tiger attacking someone in the village. animals aren't valued in remote 3rd world villages the way they are in the USA. the tigers are seen as a threat

I wonder if she had a reaction to the blood transfusion. They said this was the first one they ever did for a tiger in India.

Its good to see people that are willing to try and save these animals. Its hard to see such a beautiful species going into such a decline because of human interaction.

This article made me VERY ANGRY the first time around (let's do the same thing to those villagers!!!), and now I am just downright FURIOUS and sad all at the same time. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNFORTUNATE. What goes around comes around....

But you have to remember that these are poor families, struggling to get by. If those were halfway healthy cubs, yes they did pose a threat to the cattle. Because of human overpopulation, the tiger habitat had been reduced, so these poor cubs had no choice but to get near the village. It's sad that these beautiful creatures have to LOOK at cattle as food, but it's the overpopulation and encroachment on their territory that makes them do it. Yes, there should be some education for these people to call wildlife personnel to relocate what they consider dangerous animals. But how many officers do you need (can afford) to spread the word to all the overpopulated area people, and yet still have the means and areas to be able to relocate them? It's such a sad situation.

How sad the cub didn't make it but it was a valiant effort to save her. The villagers need more education on what to do if they find cubs that might have been abandoned or orphaned by their parents. These cubs seemed to be in bad shape when they were found and didn't seem like they would have been much of a threat to anyone.

I am sorry the rare blood tansfusion did not save the Indian Tiger, "Juhi" I don't understand why the Villagers beat this cub. It seems like there would have been a better way to take care of the situation.

At least they tried, and possibly it was a learning experience. Such a sad ending to what was a sad story, with the reason behind the poor girl's injuries

Poor little girl. Blood transfusions are kind of hit and miss and they weren't able to do the match testing they do on humans. I hope they start researching this aspect as it might possibly work with the related studies that go with it.

I am so sad it didn't work, but as other posters stated, I am also glad they tried. This article reminds me of the one about mustangs here in the US. The problem, as I see it, is these animals are losing their living space due to human sprawl. The same thing happens where I live with deer and coyotes. There are so many developments going up that these animals are forced to share what we as humans perceive as our space, and they end up with the short end of the stick. I can't do much, but I have vowed never to buy a home in a new development and I go to city council meetings to urge them to give incentives for businesses and developments to use existing space. Two examples of stupidity from my town are first there was a Dominick's grocery store that went out of business. It sits empty in a strip mall on a huge chunk of space over four years later. Down the road approx. 2 miles a brand new Home Depot popped up on what used to be open space. Why couldn't they have used the Dominick's spot? I have no idea. My other example is currently being fought against so outcome unknown. There is a Wal-mart in town. They want to build a new one 2 miles south on the same road and close the current one. So far, it has not been approved. Why can't they just expand? Not sure.

I was sorry to see that this poor little cub didn't survive. The medical team caring for her did all they could. It's a shame people and wildlife can't co-exist. Animals don't know about boundaries, but people do. If you live in the animals' habitat, you should expect problems. It's too bad there aren't conservation officers that could be brought in when people feel threatened. Rather than getting beaten, maybe the cubs could have been relocated or put somewhere until they were old enough to take care of themselves.

There are so very few of these magnificent animals left that it is a great tragedy to lose one tiger cub. The veterinarians were working in the dark in this case--having no prior experience with blood transfusions on wild tigers to guide them and unfortunately no research available.

The villagrs are merely the victims of fear and ignorance. They have to live and eat, but so does the tiger upon whose habitat humankind has encroached. If India doesn't initiate a viable program to save the tiger soon, this beautiful graceful magestic beast will disappear forever.

Even when the hearts are in it, some rescue missions fail. My heart goes out to all you who tried to save her, they must feel a great sense of lost. I hope they will still continue to learn from this experience.

I like when zootoo posts updates. But it is sad that the tiger did not make it! I was hoping it would. Now from this I hope they do more research on blood transfusions on tigers so if this was to happen again (I hope not) but if it was to they would know more about it!!! Sad that the cub did not recover.

I also usually enjoy the updates. This one is very sad unfortunately. I hope the doctors learned something from the surgery so next time they need to do a procedure like this it will be a success.

They definitely need to educate the villagers. But...it all happened because of the dwindling habitats. If they don't vow to preserve some of the areas, they may wipe them out. If you look at the numbers lost in passed years, it's shocking.

I was so hoping this would work. Hopefully, they can still use the information to learn about future transfusions. It is sad about the plight of the animals there. But when there are too many people, something has to give.
