The Humane Society of the United States has declared this week Puppy Mill Action Week.
The idea is to ask that pet lovers not buy animals from pet shops or online vendors – which frequently source their animals from puppy mills.
The HSUS says people can actually help put an end to the operations by lowering pet demand before the holiday season.
HSUS rep Stephanie Shain says people who think they're rescuing an animal by buying it from a pet store are wrong – they're actually feeding the issue.
Instead, stop in at your local animal shelter – where you can find a pet that truly needs your help.
Celebs are even getting involved – with support coming from Nathan Lane, Kelly Ripa, Molly Shannon, Patricia Arquette and more.
Find out how you can help by visiting HSUS.org.
