Price is Right for Animal Rights Studies

Browse News

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Bob Barker, animal lover and former host of The Price is Right, heads to his alma mater next week to make a donation. According The Seattle Times Barker plans to give $1 million for a new undergraduate animal-ethics program at Drury University.

The school will receive a grant for a new program called the Bob Barker Endowment Fund for the Study of Animal Rights.

You may recall Barker’s sign off at the end of each episode when he said, “Please be nice to the pet population, and have your pet spayed or neutered.”

His dedication to animals hasn’t ended with his retirement.

The first class in the new program will cover animal ethics and is aimed at informing students about issues that effect animals.

This is Barker’s first donation to an undergraduate program. In the past, he’s given funds for animal-rights curricula at notable law schools nationwide, including Northwestern, Columbia and Harvard.

I noticed a person making repeat comments so they can get extra point for their shelter. If the comments were ligitimate comments would be one thing but they're not. I am so hoping that before zootoo rewards the million dollar makeover that they are going to review these excessive comments and boot them out, because its not fair to the other shelters that aren't cheating. Does everyone agree?

I totally agree. I noticed earlier today that the same person typed in some letters that did not make sense and this same comment was in there eight times. That is not fair. Zoo too needs to throw that stuff out.

you need to "flag this comment" and complain it is SPAM to get it removed...it also helps to check that particular member homepage to see if it is habitual..with this person, it is

a bit off point but i did complain about one of this persons other pseudos two days ago, they removed the comments and hopefully the points..i know they took away the 16 points i had when i made the complaint...i also asked zootoo if this was a legitamate way to gain points..i didnt receive an answer for that one... at this point, i am about ready to let baby have his bottle...if that is all we need to do to save 3 hours a day here maybe we should all look at doing that

yeah, I've seen a lot of that these days. You can "flag" the excessive/gibberish comments and report to zootoo... but I don't know how often they go thru them becuase I've seen repeat offenders continue.
I also wish there was a general non-point comment forum so we could all just discuss stuff without being concerned about valid/appropriate points like this tangent ;)

You just have to love Bob Barker. I don't know whether it was in the contract or not but Drew Carey also says at the end of Price is Right to spay and neuter your pets. I just wish everyone would listen to that.

$1 Million! Now that price is right for an animal endowment. Thanks Bob for all you do and have done throughout the years.

Bob Barker has always helped the animals. Just with his quote of "please be nice to the pet population and have your pet spayed or neutered." Every day, he said that after each show. He had to get that message out there and what a wonderful way of doing it.

I also love that he has given funds and grants to animal welfare groups.

This new program sounds so awesome, I would love to attend.

Mr. Barker isn't barking up the wrong tree with this type of endowment, and the price tag he put on it is generous! I think it is a terrific idea and I especially like the focus on ethics. Moreoever, I think it makes a lot more sense to start something like this while one is still ALIVE and able to see one's contribution and accomplishments (as opposed to donating after death and never really getting to know what impact one has had). THANK YOU, "BOB"--and I hope you continue to lead a healthy, happy, and fruitful life!

Bob has been a driving force in spay and neuter drives. He has done so much in making people aware of the problem. I just wish whoever xxooanimallover is, if you really are related to Bob, this person would fight for animal rights and not waste time on zootoo.

I'm sure that is not what she meant. There was a specific comment made further down that she was addressing. There are so many comments lately that are either jibberish or completely absurd and it has honest zootooers annoyed, myself included. We all appreciate the fact the people want to earn points for their shelter, but please do so with integrity and quit the nonsense.

How awesome would it be to hear him speak about it. I bet he can inspire everyone who hears him. Maybe he should go on tour to raise funds for shelters? Each shelter he speaks at would get the proceeds of the tickets sales...hmmmm

That is a great idea! Of course, I'm sure that in retirement he has other plans, but he certainly could help shelters, especially those that spay and neuter!

This is a great thing. It's one thing to just boost your popularity by giving some concern about pets, but it's great for him to do that and action that will really help.

Bob Barker is a great philanthropist. His foundation for canine spay/neuters has made a tremendous impact on the lives of thousands of dogs and helped reduce the pet overpopulation one dog at a time. A truly remarkable caring individual.
