Price is Right for Animal Rights Studies

Browse News

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Bob Barker, animal lover and former host of The Price is Right, heads to his alma mater next week to make a donation. According The Seattle Times Barker plans to give $1 million for a new undergraduate animal-ethics program at Drury University.

The school will receive a grant for a new program called the Bob Barker Endowment Fund for the Study of Animal Rights.

You may recall Barker’s sign off at the end of each episode when he said, “Please be nice to the pet population, and have your pet spayed or neutered.”

His dedication to animals hasn’t ended with his retirement.

The first class in the new program will cover animal ethics and is aimed at informing students about issues that effect animals.

This is Barker’s first donation to an undergraduate program. In the past, he’s given funds for animal-rights curricula at notable law schools nationwide, including Northwestern, Columbia and Harvard.

There are way too many animals that are not taken care of so I agree with the way that Bob Barker ended his shows.

Good use of his millions. Somebody needs to look outfor them. I imagine it is difficult since laws are so varied by locality and there is not as much precedent for animals. NOt much to draw on specifically in the Judeo-Christian tradition anyway....

Terrific! I can't think of a better program for college students. We need to get people informed that animals are living breathing creatures that deserve to be treated ethically. Way to go Mr. Barker.

And if only more folks will do the same. With so many folks getting millions and millions, they need to do something like this instead of stupid stuff like.......well......fighting dogs or cockfighting, or whatever illegal activity they can find.

Way to show the way Bob.

Bob Barker's DJ&T Foundation has been in existence for some 15 years now helping to fund low cost spay/ neuter programs all across the USA. He is a huge animal lover & supporter and this is just another way that he is giving to those creatures who give so much to us. With this type of funding for his Alma Mater there will now be new voices for animals - new advocates to help teach people that animals are NOT property and should not be regarded as such - that animals are not put here on this earth solely for human purposes - be that research, dog fighting , cockfighting, circuses, bullfighting, etc, THANK YOU , Bob, from all of us who want what is best and is needed for animals.
