Price is Right for Animal Rights Studies

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Bob Barker, animal lover and former host of The Price is Right, heads to his alma mater next week to make a donation. According The Seattle Times Barker plans to give $1 million for a new undergraduate animal-ethics program at Drury University.

The school will receive a grant for a new program called the Bob Barker Endowment Fund for the Study of Animal Rights.

You may recall Barker’s sign off at the end of each episode when he said, “Please be nice to the pet population, and have your pet spayed or neutered.”

His dedication to animals hasn’t ended with his retirement.

The first class in the new program will cover animal ethics and is aimed at informing students about issues that effect animals.

This is Barker’s first donation to an undergraduate program. In the past, he’s given funds for animal-rights curricula at notable law schools nationwide, including Northwestern, Columbia and Harvard.

Bob Barker is truly great. Who knows how many people have had their dogs and cats spayed or neutered due to his influence. He is truly generous with his time and his money.

Mr. Barker is doing an incredible job to educate people so that all animals may live in happiness and safety. He should be given an award.

I wish more celebrities would take an ethical stand for the animals like Bob Barker, instead of patronizing puppy mills for the latest four legged accessory.

What a way to give back to your community! I have such incredible respect for anyone who uses their celeb for postive impacts on our society. I went to a taping once of the show and he truly is a classy guy! Thanks Bob!

Bob Barker has always been one of my favorite celebrities! I'm so happy to hear that after retiring from the Price is Right he is still active in his role to help animals.

he is awesome. and i really wish that people were more genuine about things like this instead of just wanting a better reputation... he's always been a great man.. but its nice to see that even with his retirement he's stilll donating and being awesome! there will never be another bob barker

I've watched Bob Barker since I was a little girl and always thought his dedication to animals was admirable. I hope his efforts will encourage others to care about animal rights.

This is a great article. I have always liked Bob Barker and I think it is wonderful what he does for pets. I was so happy that he ended each show with have your pets spayed or neutered and I'm glad that they are having Drew Carey continue with it. I hope people are listening to to this. This is such an important thing to do.

Thank you, Mr. Barker. Animals need your help and you've given so much throughout the years. Animals to have rights and it's time for people to study and pass laws that protect all animals.

I think it's wonderful that he's willing to donate money to schools for learning more about animals, but I hope he also gives to shelters to help those animals out.
