Preserving Your Pet Pal

Browse News

A Florida Company is changing the way we remember our pets after they die. AnimalPreservation.net makes it possible to freeze dry your animal companion.

Freeze drying is very different than traditional taxidermy in that the whole body is kept instead of just the hide.

During the process, the pet is placed inside the freeze dry chamber and then rapidly frozen. The chamber is vacuumed, removing all moisture from the cells – which is the key to preventing decay.

Finally the drying process begins- resulting in a perfect preservation.

The Smithsonian uses this method to preserve animal for their exhibits.

This type of preservation definitely belongs to a niche market, but for those who don't like the alternatives, freeze drying just might be the answer.

Oh my God! Would you do this to your grandma? or your mother? Why would you ever want your pet freeze dried. It would be a horrible thing to look at every day. I want to remember them as a "live, warm body". UGH

How are "inventions" like this discovered anyway? Do they come up with the idea and do tests or accidentally come up with it while doing something legitimate and worthwhile??

The fact that there is a market for such a service is disturbing. What's next??

There is a line over which some pet owners cross, and when they do, they become KOOKS. This "service" is over that line.

Can't see it at all. An animal deserves the same respect in death that a human receives.

I think pets deserve a proper burial or cremation. They should not be made into display items.

This is a little too morbid for me. An alternative would be to have your pet made into a diamond...like they can do with your loved ones ashes. LifeGem can create diamonds from your pet just as they can from your human family members when they pass away. They can even do it with hair from your pet! It would be a lasting memory of your cherished family member if you can afford to do so. I posted this just as an alternative, as I believe that every pet owner has to make their own decision on how they would like to memorialize their pets.

This is completely horrible. Bury your pets. They deserve a proper burial just like anyone else. This is alittle morbid.

OOH! I think your pet deserves a proper burial just like anyone else. This is as sick as the hoarder who was keeping his dead cats in his freezer. Let the dead go and adopt another needy pet that needs you!

This is creepy. I don't want my pet freeze dried. I have their pictures and their memories. I don't need their body. Just like the people who stuff their dead animals, I'm sure there are somethat will go the freeze dried route.

This is bizarre and really freaky. I can just imagine going to a friend's house and seeing a freeze-dried pet. Yikes!

A picture would be enough for me. What happens to the "freeze dried" animal after the owners pass on. Will it be passed through the family. I would want my ancestors' freeze dried pet!

This is definitely not my cup of tea! I love my dog dearly but she would not want this nor would I. I want to remember her beautiful free spirit the way she was when she was with us.

Once they have died, the body is just the shell left behind by the beautiful spirit that inhabited it. I would rather remember them as they were when they were alive. A freeze dried corpse would not be very comforting.

This is a little creepy. It's bad enough leaving a can of tuna on the ground after your cat dies. But what happens when you can actually see them. You might throw a ball and they don't go get it and then you're sad all over again.

That is sick and twisted. You'd have to crazy to do something like that. Take the money you'd use to do this procedure and donate it to your local humane society.
