This is not the kind of story I like to read but I hope some good will come out of it. I know everyone like pets but to toss animals off a bridge goes off the charts in crulty to animals.

This is a horrible story. In addition to the cruelty involved there must be a health hazard with all those dead animals around. Shame on the judge that released them.

I find this too horrible for words. But not surprising in a generation with less and less respect for any living thing: four or two legged!

Everyone should know that the people responsible for this horror were set free but the judge in the case last year. There is still a civil suit pending and they can use funding for the lawyers. You can contact Alma Febus mentioned in the story. Things are still VERY bad in Puerto Rican shelters but there alot of people changing the laws which is the first step and hard fought I might add.

And so many are very dedicated to the change. Those things take a long time though unfortunately and that's why we just can't say "no" when they ask us to help with the shorter term solution of taking some of the dogs and finding them good, good homes here while the work continues in Puerto Rico.

Yes, it's a shame that this was the same reason that drew people from around the nation, not to long ago, to discuss this same problem...animals being thrown from bridges and what needs to be done about it. It's people, cowards like Julio Diaz that are turning their back on the problem instead of addressing it.

This is terrible. This is a result of ne education or laws helping animals. They should be spaying and nutering the animals not paying to have them murdered.

And luckily there are many organizations, including ours, which are working very hard to bring those changes about. There are many good people who really want to see the changes made and you are right about educating--it will go much further than anything else over the long haul.

Puerto Rico definitely needs help with the animal care issues in the area, but confiscating and killing pets isn't going to fix anything. They need help creating spay/neuter programs that are affordable for residents and building better shelters, etc.

This particular story is horrifying if true. Beyond the way the animals were hauled off and treated, talk about a health hazard with all of the dead bodies!

It's typical (unfortunately) of that Territory. Pets roam the streets there, horses run lose on the highways and nobody cares. You couldn't throw a dead cat (or dog) without hitting a cock fighting arena in San Juan.

Why weren't charges made against Diaz? Should we believe the mayor didn't know about the raids too. The city is COSIDERING a lawsuit? That's pretty bold of them isn't it.

You'd be surprised. We lived in Brazil for several years and during that time crime became a problem in Rio de Janeiro. The cops, there, rounded up many of the street children, took them into the mountains, and they never came back.

I think money, or lack of, has a lot to do with it.

"...municipal officials deflected the blame" should have been prefaced with the word "Corrupt." Corruption when officials and others in positions of power or authority will sell their souls for more power, more money. Money is indeed the root of all evil, and corruption is sickness that goes clear to the core. So few people do not have a price for which their standards can be purchased. It doesn't just happen in poor countries or the slums of cities. It happens at all levels. As with other addictions, priorities get shifted to the point that the ONLY thing important to those with the addiction is their next fix: Whether that fix is in the form of money, power, etc.

Again, just terrible. I wonder how the responsible individuals would like to be injected and thrown from a bridge? I'm sure they would have a different outlook if someone else was less than concerned for their life. These are terrible, terrible people. 80percent of those who abuse animals abuse people.
