I am writing my senators and congressmen this weekend to urge them to increase inspections and enforce and strengthen regulations on companies that breed animals for the pet stores. We need to take action to ensure this doesn't happen. I am very curious as to what punishment these people will face if found guilty of these abuse charges. My guess is a small fine and the company will be back doing business soon after. People who run and work at these types of coompanies should be banned from the pet industry permanently if found guilty.
I don't shop at stores that sell live animals or the big boxmarts. I really prefer smaller locally owned shops for a number of reasons:
They don't sell live animals.
The staff is usually more knowledgeable about products and food.
They carry better grades of food.
You support your local community and neighbors instead of putting money in some CEO's pocket or giving it to China.

I am curious about your "live animal" comments though. Are you not a small animal owner, or do you seek a different approach? You see, I was raised with rats, and we always went to places like petsmart to get them. I just haven't looked into finding local breeders. Do you have any further comments about that, or are you just talking about buying supplies for larger domestic animals?

I hope this matter is taken care of swiftly and no more animals are abused. I have shopped and ordered from Petsmart and hate to feel that I have ever contributed to such things...

To their credit, the Arizona Petsmart Charities contribute to our shelter very generously.
I just don't understand how people can be cruel to these little ones.

That being said, I wish they would stop selling animals all together and go the adoption and rescue route rather for all animals.
