Oprah Mourns Loss of 2nd Dog
March 27, 2008
CHICAGO -- Another of Oprah Winfrey’s dogs has died, marking the second in a year for the famed TV personality.
Sophie, a 13 year-old Cocker Spaniel, suffered from kidney failure and died earlier this week.
Winfrey had spoken of the dog’s illness last year in “O” magazine, stating that she and boyfriend Stedman Graham were “preparing for the inevitable.”
Another dog belonging to the couple died last year after choking on a small ball. Gracie, a two year-old golden retriever, passed away in May.
"Weeks have passed," Winfrey wrote in “O” following Gracie’s death. "And the pain has not subsided. Every time I think about it, my heart starts racing and I feel like I just got stabbed in the chest."
Although Winfrey was not available for comment on Sophie's passing, the loss was apparent throughout her empire.
“Everyone here is really sad,” said a spokesperson during an interview with Celebrity Dog Watcher. “Sophie was truly part of the Harpo family as well as Oprah’s.”

Every one of us can sympathize with what she must have been feeling. I am glad to hear she will be supporting shelters and not breeders as a source of pets.
