New Yorkers Give $19K to Animal Rescue

Browse News

On Tuesday, Oct. 27, New Yorkers generously donated $19,000 to the Glen Wild Animal Rescue at Unleashed, an Auction and Cocktail Party held at the Carlton Hotel in Manhattan.

There were generous items donated to be auctioned off for the cause; including near-impossible-to-get tickets for the Late Show with David Letterman. There to auction off the items were Alan Kalter (of the Late Show), Spencer Ross, and honorary chair of The Glen Wild Animal Rescue, Bernadette Peters. The money earned will be used to facilitate the animals at this unique shelter.

The Glen Wild Animal Rescue promotes Humane Education and provides Pet Adoption Services. For the animals who reside there, it is said that they live in a sanctuary where are given love and care in a home setting.

If you are interested in donating to the Glen Wild Animal Rescue visit GlenWildAnimalRescue.org.

It's heartwarming to see so many capable people gathering together to help out the critter-needy. It didn't say, but I'm assuming that with this 'natural' habitat where the animals live out their lives (or are eventually able to be adopted out), that they are at least spayed/neutered and given basic vaccinines.

Here's hoping to many more such events all over. So many more need shelter and homes.

I'm always happy when I hear that any money is given to help the animals....and what a great place to "start" at.....now, they just need to keep up the work, and keep raising money for the animals....so many of them are in need....

Plus, it's always so hard for me to go to the shelter, as I always want to take ALL those faces home....those eyes they give you can really tug at the ol' heart strings.

I've run into so many people in different areas of the country who have a negative opinion of NYC. If only they realized how many people live in the city who have such kind hearts and caring ways. This story is only one example of that.

it would be great for more of these public figures to speak out more and even if it is a brief appearance to help motivate people to step up and donate, volunteer, foster and adopt

New Yorkers know how to throw a party and bring out the best in people. I am not surprised about the dollar amount of this donation. I guess you can tell that I am from New York and am proud of the group of people who could see that animals depend on us and that we have to protect them as was evident with Bella the the pitbull.

I just wanted to make a quick update. And for all who fell in love with the emaciated pitbull pup that we rescued that night...I spoke with Liz at GlenWild Rescue and she said the little pitbull we saw in the video named "BeLLa" is already gaining weight~and so full of excitement, just jumping around and kissing everyone up there..i think she knew that night she was on for a grand adventure! Bless you little Bella~

This was an Amazing event..a wonderful time and opened many eyes to the plight of unwanted animals. Whats different about Glen Wild Animal Rescue is that for these mostly abused, neglected animals..not only do they get a second chance with Liz, but they go through behavioral training too, and many of these loving, once terrified animals are now confident and loving and give back to society in ways so beneficial to the lives they touch. They become part of programs to help childeren, in human education, by bringing enrichment and learning compassion and training techniques..giving opportunities to these kids and to the animals themselves...where most would never have had the chance.
Thank-you LiZ. & GlenWild Animal Rescue for all that you do! I hope and pray you get all the help you need! Its a long road ahead but there are many that support you. I look forward to attending your next fundraiser next year! :)

Michelle, You're so lucky that you live where you can go to these events! Thanks so much for rescuing the pit bull! I live upstate, in the sticks with not much around us, so this type of event is light years away!

I'm sure any amount raised will be put to good use. I'm not sure how far $19,000 will go, considering the "special needs" of the animals, but it is $19,000 more than they had.
