Nearly 200 Domestic, Farm Animals Rescued

Browse News

APACHE JUNCTION, AZ – Responding to a tip, Arizona police found 185 animals being kept in abusive conditions.

Unlike typical hoarding cases, this involved seven different species and various breeds being rescued from a rural property near Apache Junction.

Authorities found 96 rabbits, 47 dogs, chickens, pigs, goats, horses, an African gray parrot and a cockatiel.

Commander Jay Swart of the Apache Junction Police Department said some of the animals were in pretty significant distress.

As of right now, none of the rescues are available for adoption. While some of the animals are still being evaluated, two have been euthanized. It is possible that one horse will also be put down.

A search warrant was served by police to the owners, who watched the animals being taken away. They declined to comment and the police did not identify them.

The police department’s forensic team is collecting evidence. Once the investigation is complete, the department will review the case with the county attorney. Depending on the findings, the owners could face animal abuse charges.

Hopefully they will pay dearly for all the lives they ruined! Hopefully they have angels on their side and they'll be nursed back to health.

This is horrible. Some people are just completely unethical! Those poor animals. Why do people take on more responsibility than they can handle and let the animals suffer for their ignorance?

These people need to be sent to jail. There is enough awareness now that this should never ever happen.

What is it with these people??? I understand trying to care for animals out of kindness and being overwhelmed, but that obviously would not be the case if the animals are in this poor a condition!

I hope dearly they don't have to put any more down. These poor animals didn't have a choice in the matter. Out on their own, they'd have done better.

How do people get by with this? Doesn't anyone in the area have a clue? Maybe they take the easy way out and turn a blind eye. Shame on them. God's creatures are not here to be abused.

What ever made these people think that they could give good quality care, or even decent care to that many animals at a time? I would love to have more than I do, but know my time and $$ limits and prefer the best care for mine.

These animals have been given another chance by the wonderful people that rescued them. I hope that once they've all been checked and have rehabilitated that they are adopted out to good, loving homes.

this is a terrible story but this is going to happen more and more because alot of people can't meet their bills right now. so the pets will be last to eat. people need to learn to get rid of these animals long before they get into this problem.

It's sad to know that animals are not being taken care of. I would be curious what the background of the situation was before I'm too critical, but as much as possible people shouldn't have animals if they can't take care of them.

How very sad. The worst part? This is only one of many homes that are unfit for animals that has one or many more. Pets take time and lots of love, it is returned many times over (no matter how stupid we are) and well worth it, but they need US to provide food, exercise and medical care. I believe that we should not be allowed to own pets without taking some kind of course that will provide awarness of what it takes to be a pet owner. Owning a pet is alot of work if done correctly. My heart aches for the animals and all others who are owned by ignorant, selfish, stupid idiots who should suffer the same fate that they put these animals through.

I guess I'm just glad to hear that the animals were found and removed before more of them had to be euthanized. Absolutely the 'owners' should face animal abuse charges - hopefully complete with some jail time and a HUGE fine to discourage them from ever keeping animals again.

Why do people who have no intention of taking care of animals keep them in the first place?? Once again human stupidity has hurt innocent animals.

It's not stupidity it's just one of the horrid natures of humans. To abuse things that don't have the power to fight back so we feel good about ourselves.

Thank you to whoever it was that tipped off the authories in this case. Being that the accused lived in a rural area the animals are lucky that someone found out and took the steps needed to save their lives!

I agree they should have to pay for ALL expenses incured for these animals. They also should not be allowed to have animals in the future. Some sort of public humiliation wouldnt hurt either. Like the article I read about some one being sentenced to wear a sign outside of the store they stole from stating ("I stoled from this store") Maybe they should have to wear a sign where ever they go that says (I abuse, mistreat and ultimately kill animals!!)

I will never understand why people do this to animals. Maybe it starts out as a love for animals, but you have to know when enough is enough. If you can't take care of the animals, give them to someone who can. No animal should suffer because someone has an obsessive compulsive hoarding disorder!

I will never understand why people keep animals if they can't or won't take care of them. If you can't afford them, find homes for them. If you don't want to do the work, don't get them in the first place. And never have animals if it is purely for profit!!!
