Nearly 200 Domestic, Farm Animals Rescued

Browse News

APACHE JUNCTION, AZ – Responding to a tip, Arizona police found 185 animals being kept in abusive conditions.

Unlike typical hoarding cases, this involved seven different species and various breeds being rescued from a rural property near Apache Junction.

Authorities found 96 rabbits, 47 dogs, chickens, pigs, goats, horses, an African gray parrot and a cockatiel.

Commander Jay Swart of the Apache Junction Police Department said some of the animals were in pretty significant distress.

As of right now, none of the rescues are available for adoption. While some of the animals are still being evaluated, two have been euthanized. It is possible that one horse will also be put down.

A search warrant was served by police to the owners, who watched the animals being taken away. They declined to comment and the police did not identify them.

The police department’s forensic team is collecting evidence. Once the investigation is complete, the department will review the case with the county attorney. Depending on the findings, the owners could face animal abuse charges.

Why? Why? Why? We may never understand why people do the irresponsible, stupid things that they do. Prosecute to the full extent that the law allows.

96 rabbits, I sure hope these have been correctly sexed now. I can only imagine them throwing them all together and ending up with 5 times as many rabbits as they started with.

what is with people...if you take an animal in, you need to care for that animal for LIFE! caring for them includes feeding, cleaning, vet visits, grooming, etc...not just throwing them into a pen and saying they're safe...good intentions, bad results! before taking an animal, look into what it takes to care for them CORRECTLY!

The importance of neighbors reporting suspected abuse is stressed in this article. I'm glad the animals have been rescued. I will never understand how people can be so cruel or thoughtless.

Consequences need for the people. I 'm glad that someone was able to step in and get the animals out of there. Hopefully they will find new and better homes.

I do not get the hoarding issue. At what point do you see yourself hurting so many animals instead of helping them like when you started the collection?

I'm glad that someone was smart enough to finally call the police. It's important to report any animal cruelty or neglect and not wait for the next person to do it; he may be waiting for you!

it sounds like the police got there at a good time. unfortunately it should have been sooner but if they can take are of these animals and get them adopted out that would be a happy ending for these pets.

I agree. This can't be it; plus, there needs to be more serious consequences. With people, hurt a person and you can serve 10 or 15 years in prison and a fine/bail in the hundred-thousands. Cruelly treat an animal, and you're looking at a $200 fine and 2 days in prison at its worse. Animals are the basis for our life; my dog has been my best friend for almost 13 years since we were both 2 months old!

There has to be more to this story. How old is the horse they might be putting down? What if they had rescued them? Whomever turned them in for abuse maybe should have volunteered some time with helping the animals too! I certainly hope there is an update to this story that proves that there was no abuse. I just cant imagine someone would have that many animals and not have heart enough to care for them

Your kidding right? I see it all the time. I volunteer at the near by shelter and you would not believe the many people that Just dont get it. It is shameful. The way some of these animals come through here in the shelter would break your heart. I am always on the look out for abuse, and you wouldn't beleive in your own neighborhood how much of it goes on.
