Nearly 200 Domestic, Farm Animals Rescued

Browse News

APACHE JUNCTION, AZ – Responding to a tip, Arizona police found 185 animals being kept in abusive conditions.

Unlike typical hoarding cases, this involved seven different species and various breeds being rescued from a rural property near Apache Junction.

Authorities found 96 rabbits, 47 dogs, chickens, pigs, goats, horses, an African gray parrot and a cockatiel.

Commander Jay Swart of the Apache Junction Police Department said some of the animals were in pretty significant distress.

As of right now, none of the rescues are available for adoption. While some of the animals are still being evaluated, two have been euthanized. It is possible that one horse will also be put down.

A search warrant was served by police to the owners, who watched the animals being taken away. They declined to comment and the police did not identify them.

The police department’s forensic team is collecting evidence. Once the investigation is complete, the department will review the case with the county attorney. Depending on the findings, the owners could face animal abuse charges.

These people need to be severly punished and the animals need to go to loving homes where they will be treated properly - with love and respect

Those poor animals. Unfortunately, the responsible parties will probably only get a slap on the wrist.

These people should be severely punished - all those poor animals - wish the people would be treated like they treated the animals. I am so very sorry for these animals and glad they were rescued.

Could face? They had way too many animals. I don't know how big the property is but that is still a lot of animals to be taking care of by yourself.

The owners of these animals should be made to stay in the filth that they made these animals live in for a year.....and then go to jail for another year.

The owner better be faced with abuse charges!! It absolutely amazes me how much people can get away with in this country with that stuff because "they are just animals"!!

Another story of irresponsible people. What makes people so insensitive to animals. I really think it's the way they're raised. If you're brought up to respect and love animals then you will be a caring adult. I have never trusted people who don't like animals.

Some people need to learn ANIMALS ARE LIVING CREATURES! We need to be able to care for them, they cannot care for themselves.

my my hope the surviving animals will find good homes. This sounds like a good thing became a horrid thing. I believe there was not enough money, not enough hours in a day, and things kept getting worse to the point nothing was taken care of correctly. Very sad these people did not ask for help or give the animals away or done something to protect these animals.

I heard about this last week. I am so sad for those animals and any who are kept in such terrible manner. We treat all of our animals like we would treat family. Even our sheep! they get treats and we play with them!

Hold the owners responsible & educate them. Have them perform so many hours of community service with an animal organization before anyone ever thinks of allowing them to adopt another animal.

How did they manage to get away with this for so long? Didn't anyone know about these poor animals?
Were the people of sound mind or crazy? Guess you have to be crazy and or very cruel to let animals suffer like that.

What a shame. I hate to hear about these types of situations. How did this go on for so long without someone reporting it. What about the meter man? The mail carrier? Did no one see this 'collecting' of animals going on? Someone knew what was going on, so why is it so hard to report it? We need to be aware of life around us - these animals might have been able to gotten out of a bad situation earlier.

These people should be identified, and then prosecuted. The laws aren't strict enough, and people treat animals badly with little to no punishment for it.

I am glad that the animals were rescued. These animal abusers should have to pay. But they probably could not afford to take care of these animals in the first place.

So they should have to do community service, if they cant give the money, they can give the time.

I think this is terrible. We hear more and more of these abuse cases, the laws need to be more stringent.
