I have read that people way into mushing will breed essentially designer breeds to develop ideal mushing dogs. At any rate, the sport is fascinating to me and I would love to watch a race sometime in my life.

For the dogs this is fun. They love to mush and go crazy when it's time to be harnessed up. I love reading stories of my state.

I have had both purebred dogs and mutts! My first was da mutt and she was the greatest! You have to be carefull where you buy dogs, I have a pom, shes the best! little friend! but iwould save a a mutt if i could! I liked this story, and lots of time it is the conection between dog and human that makes the difference! Laura

I wish there were more pictures of the dogs. We just adopted a husky/aussie mix. I like the idea of good old "mutts" and I mean that term with afection...winning anything. I read an article about the streanths of pointer/husky mixes in races. I hope that people our encouraged to open up their homes and hearts to the mixed breed dog. They have just as much charicter and pizazz then a pure bred.

LOVE this story. Everyone knows (well the smart people know) that Mutts are better, faster, smarter, stronger and better looking than the overbred purebreeds. ;-)

WOW!!!!!!....$69,000 is a lot of money. those dogs must've been REALLY tired since they had to run the whole way. if i was one of the dogs, i would probably die on like the 8mile.

What an inspiring article! I understand that the Iditarod can be very challenging for the dogs and mushers as well so this is great when something surprising comes up like a mixed breed winning the race.

They should do away with this race- what you don't hear about are the dogs that are abused and pushed to the brink of death so that humans can be entertained- sick.

I love this story. Great to hear that mixed breeds are finally receiving notice. AS a mixed breed mom, I am astounded at what they can do. Don't have to be a pure bred to be a top dog.

I love it that those who were probably least expected to win did. Dogs that aren't purebred can be just as great at sled racing. And of course, the musher is very talented, too. Congrats to him and his dogs!

I am not disturbed by mixed breeds winning this or any contest. What disturbs me is that dogs died to run this race.
