Big conventions can be great places to hobnob with celebrities, and the Meet The Breeds event at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City was no exception.

Zootoo caught up with Munch, the star of Iams' newest ad campaign "Beautiful on the Inside" and his proud owner Deirdre Nardelli.

He is a beautiful dog, but I don´t buy their product because of the cruel animal testing. As a matter of fact, when I found out I sold all the stock that I owned of procter and gamble. I want to go green and am a little at a time.

Bravo!! I applaud you for what you did....Iams does do some terrible animal testing, so I don't use their products either.

Are you talking about the animal testing on other Proctor and Gamble products like soaps, cleaning products, and personal hygiene products? Or is cruel animal testing being done for the development of the dog and cat foods?

What a cutie poo! I just wish he was in commercials for better dog food. I refuse to use Iams.

I think Munch is an awesome dog and is perfect for doing commercials. Didn't hear his owner claiming to feed Iams to her Munchkin, though. Iams has come under attack and criticism, and I do think the formulation has changed once Proctor and Gamble bought the brand. I also hear how Iams is not such a great pet food to feed your furbabies. I have been feeding Iams for years, but am switching out to something else. I do think that Iams was a good brand at one time, but not so sure anymore. Don't know what this testing on animals is about that one poster stated below. I do know that there are better quality products than Iams, although my cats have done very well on Iams for years.

I used Iams dogfood some years back. I have since switched to a different brand. At one time it was a leading brand, but now there are much better brands available.

I started feeding Suzy Iams when I got her and her behavior was unbelievable. It was like feeding an ADHD kid pure sugar! I switched to Purina One and had no problems. And just to be sure - I would occasionally slip in a can of Iams and her behavior would immediately deteriorate.

One of my cats is grossly overweight, and I am pretty sure it is from all the carbs found in commercial pet food. This cat will not eat wet food, and doesn't eat anything but dry food that is usually only 32-36% protein. She has always been neurotic, but that is just the way she is. I think because her former owner declawed her that makes her compensate by chewing on things since she can't scratch. She is a sweet cat, but way too fat. I know that her life span is being shortened, and she is at great risk for diabetes.

My family & I are such MUNCH FANS - we check out his Facebook page daily to see what he has been up to - he is the coolest bulldog around and we cannot wait to see what his next adventure involves - His owner is so gorgeous & well spoken - he is truly one lucky pooch!! We love you Deirdre & MUNCH - Keep up the great work!!

Munch is a Lover. I've seen him many times, and he is thrilled to see folks. He loves toys that squeek. He's in great condition, and he and Dierdre will help others who need to shape up.

That is a beautiful bulldog! There does seem to be some controversy over the IAMS brand, though. Is zootoo comfortable with IAMS? Do they think it's OK to buy it?

I wrote to Iams once because of something Peta had on their website. They wrote back a long personalized letter saying they absolutely do not do animal testing, and give tons of free food to shelters. Right now they have a big campaign with Hillary Swank to promote adoptions. So I don't know. I support PETA but don't always believe without question everything they say. I prefer to do my own research. HSUS does not have a problem with them.

Thanks for your comment, Diane. I have had issues with PETA in the past, and no longer send donations to them. They leave no room for free thinking. HSUS on the other hand, I do trust. Maybe I'm too cynical, but when a company, such as IAMS takes the time to write a letter, I'm not sure whether to believe them or not. They are trying to sell products, after all.

I have my doubts about them too....I saw the Peta videos on how they cut out chunks of the dogs muscles, and left them lying on a cold floor suffering without any medication, and how they cut their vocal chords...so I don't know what to think.

Well, I saw Jenifers post below, and went to the IAMS site to check out their side of the Peta story....I may have been wrong about what I hear IAMS did...so I will post their link too, so others can check it out as well and make up their own minds...

My son and I went to the Meet the Breeds show and it was amazing! You think Munch looks good on camera? You should see him live in all his doggy glory! Very handsome fellow. :o) Thanks to all the dog parents for bringing their dogs to the show. We had a great time!

We think Munch and Deirdre are the best. It takes not only proper diet to make him great inside and out, but a wonderful owner to keep him that way.
Way to go Deirdre all your hard work has shown in this guy. All the best to you and your gang!

Good gawd,
When are pet lovers going to learn that IAMS kills,ye heard me right,IAMS kills animals,I said it on here before and I'll keep saying it,when I'm in the store in the petfood section and I see someone putting IAMS in their cart I go up to them and ask them if they are aware of how IAMS kills animals and I get some strange looks until I give them a leaflet from iamscruelty.com,but they don't just test on dogs they also test on cats,if ye really love ye pet please stop feeding them IAMS,why feed this food to ye pet at the expense and death of others?

Jenifer, thank you for posting these links...i'm going to check them out, as I too, have seen the Peta videos on IAMS.....and I don't like animal cruelty in any way....but I do always look for the truth on things....so I will see IAMS side on this matter to be fair too.

Not only is Munch easily the coolest bulldog on TV - but his family (our breeders) are without question the best around! We are SOOOOOO proud to see all the great things he is doing! Go Munch!

"Beautiful on the inside" implies that the dog is NOT "beautiful on the outside". Bulldogs are cute or ugly--depending on one's view. Why not "beautiful, inside and outside"?
