Martha Stewart’s Pet Chow Dies
April 16, 2008
NEW YORK – Martha Stewart announced on her blog today that her chow companion of nearly 13 years died of renal failure on Saturday.
Named Kublai Khan Paw Paw Chow Chow Chow, in part because of his large paws, the 60-pound dog was with Stewart since he was a puppy.
“Paw Paw just stopped eating and drifted off to deep sleeps, where he now rests peacefully, and I’m most confident, quite happily,” said Stewart on her blog of Paw Paw’s final days. “I will miss him, always.”
The beloved pet often traveled with Stewart and made appearances on her television show and in her magazine. Paw Paw also modeled, according to Stewart in her blog, quite willingly in photo shoots for television commercials and national print ads.
Stewart described Paw Paw as having “an easy-going nature” and being “a spectacular chow and an even more spectacular dog.”
“Beauty-Boy, Paw-Paw was elegant and kind and reserved and charming up until the very last moment,” wrote Stewart of the pet who never was “never disobedient” and always listened without a raised voice.
Paw Paw is survived by Stewart’s various other animal companions at her Bedford, Ny., farm. They include: four Frisian horses: Rinze, Martyn, Rutger, Ramon and Meindert; three miniature donkeys: Rufus, Billie and Clive; two small breed dogs: Francesca and Sharkey; 22-different breeds of chickens; and a handful of Himalayan cats, including Verdi, Vivaldi and Mozart.
