TOKYO – An elderly woman who went missing from her home this week could have died from exposure, during one of the coldest days this season. Luckily, a dog came to her rescue.

According to Tokyo police, the 73-year-old suffers from dementia, and wandered from her home and got lost.

Officers found her in a park three miles away, cuddling with the dog.

An officer said it was keeping the woman warm by huddling next to her, and that she probably would have died in the cold.

Authorities say they initially thought the dog belonged to the woman, but later found out that it did not – it seems to have also been wandering through the park when it found the woman.

The officers say they decided to bring the dog back to the park rather than intern it to the pound, where it would likely be put down. They said they thought it'd have a good chance of finding it's way home.
