Howl-A-Ween in NY Means Costumes Galore

Browse News

In October, the Big Apple turns into a month-long Mardi Gras for pets. With so many must-attend, pet-friendly parties and parades, Zootoo Pet News wanted to know where chic New Yorkers can get the coolest looks for their pooches.

So we called Lucy Thompson and our K9 in the City team to sniff out this year's pet costume trends. The story lead them to the Flat Iron District, home of Trixie + Peanut.

The one-stop shop for upscale Halloween costumes, as well as other pet goodies, seems to be trending all sorts of celebrity looks, especially tribute costumes to the late Michael Jackson. Watch the video above, as Lucy gets the scoop from owner Susan Bing.

Trixie + Peanut is located at 23 E. 20th Street, NY, NY or online at TrixieAndPeanut.com, and by phone at: 212-358-0881.

Tell us what you think about “Howl-A-Ween in NY Means Costumes Galore” below or submit story ideas for K9 in the City by e-mailing Haley Finnegan at: hfinnegan@zootoo.com.

I bought 2 xsmall costumes on clearance last year for my lil ones.I have sweaters and shirts for them that my sister made them. They love to dressed because it means they are going for a walk or ride.Chihuahuas need a little extra warmth here in the North.( I took an odd sock and cut the foot off and then cut arm holes in it for them when we first got them and Annie now wheres the sock shirts)

I'm torn on this...I think it all depends on the pet & guardian. My dogs are rescues & I have seen how a fancy collar perks them up if they're feeling a bit mopey (like when my grandfather is out or something).

i still truly believe that if you have the money to dressup your pets you should donate it to a rescue or a shelter

My cats would think it was undignified to dress like that! Pets are a lot like kids, some like to dress up and some don't.

I found two cute costumes at Dollar Tree this week (angel and clown). Suzy "modeled" the angel costume yesterday for Grandma and Grandpa - she loves dressing up. I wouldn't have bought either costume if they had cost more. I agree it's frivolous when the money could be spent on other things.

We tried to take a picture of the angel last weekend but couldn't get the lighting right inside and it was too cold and damp outside. I'm going to try tomorrow with the clown and think I might save the angel for a Christmas card photo. It's a lot more fragile and I hate to keep putting it on and taking it off.

I think that it sounds like great fun IF your pet has a good time. My dog doesn't like clothes, but she'd participate in a party/eating any time!! In other words, Live and Let Live. :) Thanks for all of these cute uplifting seasonal stories Zootoo.

I don't particularly like the idea of making pets wear costumes, and it seems more like a money-making scheme on the part of retailers than a "fun" activity.

The pets' parents--if they insist on dressing up their pets--ought to make the costumes themselves out of clothes and other items they already have around the house. (I know not all people have time to do this, yet I bet the ones who don't have the time spend a lot of time shopping for these costumes!)

I'm a cat owner and I don't think my cats would tolerate being dressed up in a costume! Dressing up pets for Halloween appears to be the new rage. I don't quite get it. Looks like a fun little pet costume boutique in NYC though.
