It seems like a lot of work to make homemade for for my pet. Homemade treats would be fun to make though.

With all the choices today, it seems like whether you feed a homemade diet or a commercial diet, it is important to do some research.

Well, truthfully there would be no way in --- that I would ever do this. I hate cooking for myself. I try to buy the best cat food I can afford, but this would be over the top for me. It may be great for some, and that's cool, but all my cats seem to lead healthy long lives from commercial food.

It is not true that homemade food only works if you have one pet or two. The truth is that the more pets you have, the cheaper it becomes. I have two cats and I foster others. I have had up to 8 cats in my care. I only ever fed them homemade diets. I just do not trust ANY commercial pet foods. But then I cook for myself and my family as well. It is good to know what you are putting in your body! People should take a more hands on approach when it comes to their health. We expect too much from food companies but all they want is money...Instead of watching 3 hours + a day of TV, let's cook for ourselves :)
Your pets should be treated like family, like children. They are completely dependent on you for everything.
If you are interested in homemade recipes, I post them on my website, free of charge!

Or do a little research. Cats and dogs have certain nutritional needs, keep those in mind and offer variety and you'll be fine!
Just stop feeding your pets other pets (yes, it has happens and probably still does)

But if you buy the ingredients in a grocery store, you still can't really be sure what you are "putting in your body", can you?

I think that homemade food for animals is healthier than packaged food, but can be costly if you have multiple pets to care for. Sometimes I make my dogs homemade food, but if I continue it for a while they become a little picky with other food. I changed them to Natural Balance because it is good for their health and they really like it. I encourage people to make homemade treats for their pets if they can't make full meals for them, it's like a little prize they can get at the end of the day for being well behaved.

You definitely have to do your homework, either way. I think there's nothing wrong with giving your pet some people food, as long as it's not toxic to them (like onions or grapes).

I think it would be hard to make time to cook for your pets. I think I will continue to feed mine the food my vet recommended and give them an occasional scrap of meat.

Even if you make your own food, you would still have to be concerned with contamination!

People do need to be aware that an "all meat" diet is not desirable. I occasionally hear people say (that is, "brag") that their cats only eat "canned tuna" that is meant for human consumption. It lacks the taurine that cats MUST have. They THINK they are being good to their cats when they are, in fact, putting their pets' lives at risk.

My dad gives his cat Tickles tuna every now and then but not all the time. Also my dad gives his dog Shasta Tuna and eggs every morning for breakfast but for the rest of the day she gets her dog food.

When Skitters was sick after we gave her her liquid diet non stop for 72 hours every hour we had to make her some specail home made dog food it was all made with human food oatmeal, eggs and I don't remember what else we had to always try it to make sure it was warm enough after making it and make sure it was not too hot. I thought it was nasty and was way too bland when I had to taste it but Skitters loved it and it was good for her. We stopped making it once she was better cause it took up too much time to make it every day or make it when we ran out and had to make more. This is funny though cause I was actcually on the internet yesterday looking for recipes for dog treats, dog food, cat food, cat treats ect., But I don't know which is better and which is cheapier but if I had the time we would definitley no longer need to buy dog food cause I could make Skitters the bland dog food she likes so much.
