Great story! Thanks to the firefighters for rescuing the duck family & moving them to safety & to Ms. Pope for looking out for them while they were nesting. I love it when people take care of animals. Too many just ignore their plight.

I agree. There are a lot of people who would not have left their van in place to help the ducks.

This is such a nice story. It's great that Ms. Pope looked out for them and went out of her way so they wouldn't be disturbed. Good that the momma duck and babies could be rescued and sent to a rehab facility. I'm sure they will do well now. Thanks for a nice, upbeat story.

I'm glad the ducklings are okay, but it's sad that they still took them away from their mother, when she was clearly already so distraught over the prospect of losing them.

We have a small swamp on our property and every spring a pair of Mallards come and nest, have their babies and stay until they are old enough to be on their own. The swamp is small and under the cover of trees. We could drain it but we won't. There are so many species that use this little water hole it is amazing and beautiful. Something went awry with this mother duck. I'm sure she didn't pick a nightlife neighborhood to just come and shake a tail feather and not find a babysitter. I'm glad she got help out of there. Good people they were to help her.

In Eau Claire Wisconsin our firefighters rescued 12 of the little dudes. Mama just waited around until they were all out and toddled off with them. Ducks should get the message somehow about how tiny their babies are and how wide the storm drain spaces are.

I'm so glad this woman cared enough to make sure these ducks were safe. It's sad how most people would have just ignored their problem. I hope we get a follow up & find out how they are all doing.

this is the 3rd baby duck story i have heard in 3 days. there were the ones the man moved out of the street, the one where a man caught them as they jumped from an over hang ain the city and now this. this shows how our animals are having to search for a place to nest and raise their youg. usually these places are not safe for them

That's true & unfortunately we'll probably see more. We destroy their natural habitat & pour concrete over it. Poor little creatures don't know where to go or what to do anymore.

Wonderful story! This happens in my area several times every spring, we are fortunate to have great police and fire departments who do their best to rescue these darling babies. Glad to hear that other cities are as lucky!
