Fall Must-Have Pet Products

Essential products to keep your pet safe and healthy all season long.

Humans and pets alike love the fall -- with its cooler temperatures and falling leaves. But the season can affect our pets in different ways. We've rounded up some essential products for autumn to help keep your pet safe, warm, and healthy throughout the rest of the year.

Here are some of the season's most common challenges -- and the must-haves to help you and your pet meet them with a smile.

1. Staying safe during darker days

Although the end of Daylight Savings Time gives us another hour to sleep, the resulting loss of daylight makes pet owners and their dogs vulnerable while out walking and playing. In the darkness, dogs and their owners out for a stroll are less visible to vehicles in the late afternoons and early evenings. To stay safe, make sure you and your dog can be seen with reflective gear. Check out safety harnesses, leash covers and more at Boett.

2. Keeping dogs dry in rainy weather

Fall weather brings seasonal rains that promise spring flowers around the corner. But no one wants a wet dog running around the house in the meantime. Besides creating messy furniture and carpeting, wet hair can contribute to matting and skin diseases. Additionally, drying off your pets quickly is particularly critical in the colder months. Try the FUR Dry dog drying wrap, made with a special Microfiber technology. The FUR Dry rapidly draws water away from a dog's coat and into the material's absorbent fibers -- eliminating the need to have multiple towels on hand to dry your dog. The product also reduces the dreaded "wet dog smell" and the need to use a loud blow dryer.

3. Protecting your pets from parasites

Falling leaves create beautiful seasonal scenery -- but they can also house ticks. For this reason, try to discourage your dogs from walking and playing in piles of leaves. Additionally, at this time of the year, fleas are still populating and continue to look for food sources -- like our dogs. Biting fleas inject their saliva into dogs, many of whom are allergic and react by scratching, itching and biting their skin. To help protect your pets, keep them on their flea and tick medications throughout the year. And although you many have worried about the expense in the past, don’t! The number of generic, vet-quality flea and tick brands like the VetGuard Plus for Dogs by VetIQ can be found at local big-box stores or pharmacies -- making flea and tick protection for your pets throughout the year more economical, especially for multi-pet households.

4. Managing canine arthritis

The seasonal drop in temperature affects many senior dogs that suffer from arthritis. To keep their arthritis manageable, try adding supplements to their diet to help boost joint health. Licks Liquid Vitamins integrate seamlessly with your pooch's water and ensures that your pet receives the daily support needed to maintain joint health. The product is packed with glucosamine-chondroitin -- promoting joint comfort, flexibility and mobility -- as well as fish oil (containing Omega-3 Fatty acids which reduce inflammation), and Vitamin E, an antioxidant vitamin that protects the body and prevent joints from becoming worse.

Additionally, if your senior dog has less mobility, he will tend to stay stationary during the day and sleep. As a result, he will need a warm and comfortable sleeping spot that can support his joints. Consider Crypton Dog Beds for your senior pet -- strong, built-to-last and resistant to troublesome stains, moisture, odor and bacteria. The beds also stay clean and keep a fresh smell as a result of the high-quality fabric.

5. Cleaning up quickly

Throughout the fall, giving your pet a bath is not always a convenient grooming solution. In those cases, try Earthbath wipes. These natural wipes contain no parabens, phosphates, phthalates, DEA, synthetic dyes or perfumes, making the residue safe for your pet. Moreover, the wipes can be used for dogs' muddy paws, dirty undercoats and even soiled bottoms! The wipes also help with removing dander, drool, discharge and cling-ons from playing in the unknown outdoors.
