Ellen too Generous?

By now we're all familiar with Ellen Degeneres' dog dilemma. At the root of the issue is the contract she signed stating the dog must stay with her or be returned to the rescue.

Many adoption agencies require such contracts to create a safety net for the animals. That way, if the owner is no longer able to provide care, it won't end up in a shelter – or worse, euthanized.

However, Ellen claims she wasn't told about that part of the contract. Based on her description of the situation – Degeneres says she had only the best of intentions for Iggy.

But good intentions don't keep animals out of shelters. Contracts, on the other hand, do.

One question comes to mind though. If Ellen didn't know about this rule and had to surrender the dog, why did Mutts and Moms initially take such a hard line?

Of course, Degeneres should have been careful to read the contract. But if this is such an important issue to Mutts and Moms, shouldn't they have vocalized that to her upon making the agreement?
