Would love to see a followup that covers whether or not the dog got the surgery. Too bad the dog got caught in the crossfire of what sounds like bad dealings.

Sure it was a pit? A mean ole pit woulda caught the bullit in his teeth and shot it back. Hope the dog is doing well and they found a vet to help. Don't matter why anyone was shooting at the home, They shot the dang dog for no reason.

It is incredibly troubling for me to try to understand why this shooting had occurred, but the female should be very grateful for her companion's companionship. As Jim had commented, I wish that Zootoo would update stories such as these for closure. I would like to have read a follow-up on the dog and the family.

Can you imagine feeling safe in your home and then having people shoot at it! The puppy took the bullet and yes, how disappointing that the vet didn't do the eye surgery. Even if it was done by monthly payments! It is very rare to find a vet or doctor these days who cares more about their patients than their checking account. But there are still some vets out there who do and we hope these people find one for this pup.

Would love to get an update on this story, hope it has a happy ending. I'm sure there had to be some vet out there who would help this family out, maybe arrange some type of payment plan.

I know vets went to school and deserve to make good money, but come on. How about doing a good deed once in while. It would be good PR and probably bring business to their clinic.

I enjoyed reading this It always pleases me when people go out of their way to save a pet, they could have taken the easy way out but they opted to preserve the life of this wonderful dog. I hope someone has read this story and jumps in with donations for this worthy dog and family .

Good for these people opting to save the dog. Isn't there some humane organization in the area that would foot the bill for the surgery? The poor puppy did not have a chance, and the young lady would be dead if it weren't for him. As for why their house was shot up--since when do today's pschycopaths need a reason to do anything, except they feel like it!

I hope a vet steps and gives this dog the surgery it needs. This is an incredible story and everyone (including the dog) are lucky to be alive. I hope the shooters are caught and punished.

Poor baby. This story was posted on December 23, '07. Hope Mr. Springer found an altruistic vet and that the necessary surgery was performed. Fifteen bullets fired, one has to wonder why. What a world we live in.
