I hope they try to rescue the remaining few before it’s too late. The last news report I saw said only five remain.

Most dolphins prefer warm waters but they will stay if there is enough food. They unfortunately will need a lot of food to keep enough blubber to enable them to stay warm. If they don't keep their blubber they will be more prone to succumb to disease in these cold waters. If they do not leave and the lake starts to freeze over could they try to keep any areas free of ice for breathing holes like they do for ice fishing? It's a huge undertaking but with so many people who wish to keep them alive it may be feasible for at least a few places to be kept free of ice--maybe create them on the way out of the area to get them to leave for the open waters?

Augh, these poor dolphins! I sure hope they are able to survive the cold waters and can get some help getting back to warmer waters very soon!

I hope they make it through the winter, or get back to warmer waters.

They really need to step in & rescue these poor things. Blubber can only last so long when they are in areas they aren't supposed to be in. I really blame sonar as a big contributing factor to dolphins & whales beaching themselves & getting lost.

There was a report on the news last night that only 6 dolphins (out of a group of 13) were sighted recently and they looked very thin. The authorities reported that they did not know if the others had made their way out of the rivers. They still do not plan to attempt a rescue.

It is strange how animals behave in situations like this, who knows why they stay, you just hope that they will leave with the food source runs low and their instinct will step in and drive them to warmer waters.

I agree. You can't second guess animals & the reasons they do what they do. Maybe they know something we don't. I just hope they'll be ok.

I'll be rooting for these guys to make it through the winter. Don't know how they're doing up north, but down south we're having a pretty mild time of it for the most part. Hang in there guys!

Well, I hope they do alright but I'm kinda inclined to agree with just leaving them be. Maybe next fall something can be arranged to encourage them to move farther south.

It seems to me that waiting for the Dolphins to start showing distress or dying is NOT a plan. Since they've had Dolphins die in this area from the cold weather before, something needs to be done. Julee

It always amazes me that humans think we are soooo much smarter than animals. They have survival instincts, and will leave when it is right for them. If they don't, it is part of natural selection. I know that may sound cruel, but it is detrimental to wild populations to intervene and save the weakest. Also, trying to net them would cause more harm than good.

I love dolphins, and I hope they are okay!

It will be a good story to follow. They are wild creatures and choose to do things they feel are right for them. I wish them well and a happy life without interference from humans.

I believe that the last one died not too long ago and was identified as a pregnant female, possibily the leader of the pod. I hope that they really are watching the rest of these dolphins closely and react quickly if they need help.

I agree they should let the dolphins do what they need to do. As long as they keep observing them. The dolphins should be able to follow their natural instincts and take care of themselves. Hopefully they will be just fine.

I hope they don't do anything stupid like netting them. When we saw the doplhins they were in the river near the the bay, which NEVER freezes, too much salt.
