Dogs Rescue Drowning Toddler

Browse News

AUSTRALIA – Two Queensland pet pooches proved that they really are man’s best friend after rescuing a drowning toddler from a local dam.

Officials said that the toddler wandered about 300 yards from his home in Andergrove before falling into a dam.

The family dogs, a Rottweiler cross and a Staffordshire bull terrier, which are often stereotyped as aggressive breeds, are believed to have followed the little boy to the dam before dragging him out of the water onto an embankment.

Police found the dogs lying next to the toddler, who suffered some scratches and cuts, believed to be inflicted during the rescue. Drag marks alongside the dam show where the dogs pulled the boy from the water.

The boy was taken to a local hospital where he was released in good health.

The dogs are heroes. This story should be in all papers. Maybe towns would not ban the breeds if they read the story!

It is pretty ironic that they are both considered 'aggressive' breeds in the U.S. and here they save this little toddler.

And we keep trying to ban these breeds in the US? It just goes to show that it's not the breed causing aggressive behaviour; it's socialization and training more than any natural proclivity.

This toddler was blessed to have two such loyal protectors!

What a perfect way to say it. These dogs can be a real blessing to families, and there have been numerous stories of dogs like these protecting the humans they love.

These "aggressive" breeds typically make the best baby-sitters. Chalk up another win for the pooches!

YEAH!!!!!! This is what we need to balance out the negative publicity of so called aggressive breeds of dogs. What great dogs this guy has and how brave they were to rescue this child and stay with him. The spirit of dogs and their compassion are so amazing.

Gee - guess stereotyping breeds is not a good idea huh? Congrats to the dogs for being true heroes and for proving that breed does not make a bad dog.

How wonderful that these dogs were with this child. Animals are much smarter than most people give them credit for. At least two beings were smart enough to know a toddler needed watching.

Not only did the dogs rescue the little boy, but they stayed by his side until help arrived. The boy's parents owe his life to these two pooches. However, one has to ask why a young child was wandering around unattended.

That little boy's parent's (not to mention the child himself) are so very fortunate that they have two wonderful dogs, who saw a bad situation, and did something about it. I can't help but wonder how the toddler ended up outside by himself with a dam nearby??

Yet another example of how humans effect animal behavior more than genetics. It sounds like that family raised those dogs well and provided them a good life, and they returned the favor.

That just proves that dogs who people think are inherently mean are not. It only depends on the owners. These dogs are heros for saving the toddler and deserve a metal and lots of treats!! I would be very proud of them if I was their owner.
