Dog Chews Superbowl Tickets

Browse News

ARIZONA – A dog named Buddy probably doesn't realize how lucky he is that his owner was able to get replacement tickets. See, Buddy chewed up a pair of Superbowl tickets that were delivered to his Arizona home.

They were delivered through the mail slot, and Buddy, who usually likes to chew his toys, made confetti out of the package. Inside, two $900 tickets to Superbowl XXXXII.

Owner Chris Gallagher says he couldn't believe what he saw when he came home earlier this week.

The black lab had mistaken the package for – well whatever he thought was in there must have seemed to good to leave un-chewed. Gallagher says he wasn't sure what to do. But after a quick phone call his fears were swept away – replacements were available.

And that's lucky because Gallagher says he couldn't afford the $1800 tickets in the first place – they were for a friend. This time, the expensive stubs will be waiting at will call – far from Buddy's hungry eyes.

That had to be an absolutely heart-stopping moment for the guy when he found the chewed tickets!

Kinda dumb for the owners to have a mail slot like this when they have a dog that chews.....I wonder how many other "valuable" things have been destroyed...like your mortage payment bill???

I'm glad he was able to get replacement tickets and was not angry at the dog. Some dog owners would not be so forgiving and the poor dog doesn't know what he did wrong.

Wow the next time I am having a bad puppy day, I will think of this guy. The worst thing I ever had destroyed was an air conditioner. I thought that was pretty bud until today; this guy wins

How lucky was this guy for being able to get replacement tickets! And this dog was so lucky too, sadly, many pet owners would not have been so forgiving of such an offense.

Sadly, not all dog owners would react so benignly. And I'm wondering how old this dog is. I've not known an adult dog who chews up mail or paperwork.

This guy was very lucky to be able to get new ones! This is something Max would do!! My husband had a state test he was going to take a couple of weeks ago and the only way for admittance is this letter of acceptance. Well he left it on the table and Max not only chewed it up but ate it!! No replacements were allowed so he missed the test. Jon was so mad he was absolutely speachless. I told him he should have known better. He didn't talk to Max the whole night!

This is hilarious! I asked my boyfriend what he would do and he said he'd cry. I'm glad the dog was okay after this lol. If he knew the dog ate the mail then how come he hasn't fixed the problem? Oh well, this is still funny.

I guess in hindsight, this is humorous but I sure bet it wasn't at the time. $1800 is a lot of money.

If the dog likes to chew, why leave anything within his reach? He'd darn lucky he could get them replaced!

At least replacements were available. It could have been a worse situation! Maybe the owner will think about getting a mailbox on the outside of his house for any future mailings!

Does anyone else think the most disturbing part of this story is that anyone is willing to pay $900 for a ticket to a football game? Big deal, the dog chewed up the mail. He shouldn't do it and if the guy knew his dog did this sometimes, he should be training him to break the habit. If this didn't work, um, a mailbox?! But $900 for a single ticket to a football game?!

I don't like those mail slots that come right inside the house. Maybe he could somehow put a basket catcher on the slot so the dog can't get to it.

Maybe he heard about the priest who had his tickets put thru a shreader and got replacements. Must have been the glue on the envelope that attracted him.

Bad doggie; bad owner. Don't leave stuff where your pet can get it. I've learned the hard way with no replacement but the dog didn't know. 5 minutes later he's back hugging you.. You can't get mad. especially if its your fault

I'm glad the guy didn't get really mad at the dog for eating the tickets and I'm glad he got replacements. I bet from now on the guy will get his mail delievered to the post office and not his house. I guess that just goes to show you not to leave things you value in the floor where your pets can tear them up.

I guess dogs will chew on most anything, huh? I am glad the tickets were replaceable...if I had been the owner and they had told me no, I would have taken the story to the press. Something tells me the uniqueness of the story would have won out and he would have gotten replacement tickets!

Maybe Buddy didn't like the Super Bowl match up - or maybe he was mad that he didn't get invited to go. I'm just glad that they were able to replace the tickets. I'll bet this is one story that the owner won't soon forget.
