Dog sniffs out record amount of Marijuana
NEBRASKA – A drug dog sniffed out $3 million dollars worth of pot en route to the eastern U.S.
A Douglas County drug team member made a routine stop of a pickup truck heading eastbound on Interstate 80 in Omaha.
Officials said Stanley L. Suojanen, 28, seemed nervous and denied permission when asked if an officer could search his vehicle.
The deputy called for Rocky, a Belgian Malinois, who sat down and stared at the camper being towed by the vehicle – exactly what he is trained to do when he’s on to something.
The officer found 93 bales of marijuana – some wrapped in green plastic and others adorned in Christmas wrapping paper.
There was a ton of marijuana – 1,940 pounds to be precise with a street value of $3 million.
The Douglas County sheriff’s office said this is the largest seizure of marijuana in the county’s history.
Suojanen was charged with intent to deliver marijuana – a class 3 felony with up to 20 years in jail and a $25,000 fine.
The truck will be turned over to the bank, the marijuana will be burned and Rocky will enjoy being top dog before his next big bust.
